Did we get the Gold Because she was Gay?
« on: August 12, 2012, 08:47:28 am »
Way to Go-Team USA!  I was surprised that Rapinoe came out of the closet.  Horrible of me to say this but I thought that upwards of eighty percent of the women's soccer, softball, and basketball teams were in the closet...so why bother making a public spectacle of it...and what did it have to do with her performance?  Rapinoe's fifteen seconds of fame was spent on making a sexual preference statement?  Or was this aimed at helping other young, nuddng closet dwellers escape their dungeons?  This was a sports venue...who cares if you are locking lips with someone of the same sex?

I have no clue what you are referring to because I didn't watch the olympics but why is it even necessary for gay people to feel they must tell the world about their sexuality.  I have no problem with people being gay that's your life I don't give one damn if that's what you feel but why shout it to the world?  People don't go around having news conferences announcing that they are heterosexual why should people feel they need to let the world know they are gay?  So what?

They got gold because they are a good soccer team, not because of someone's sexual preference.

No, I don't believe we got gold because she was gay.  Our team was a good team so that's why they won, nothing else.  I personally didn't see much of the Olympics, though it's sad to think the only time she got on camera was focused on sexual preference.

So what?

I KINDA agree.  It really shouldn't matter what your preference is.  But, then again, TV is pretty much littered with heterosexual shouting because it's considered "normal/average".  I've yet to see a home security commercial where a gay couple's house is robbed/protected by their system.  Or a men's shave gel commercial where his sexy partner is male as well.  Or a woman's hair removal commercial where a woman is the one noticing how smooth the other woman's legs are.

I think what some are trying to do is show others, maybe even other homosexuals, that they can accomplish anything.  I mean, Oscar Pistorius wasn't getting congratulated just cause he was a "normal" person in the Olympics (normal being used loosely here).  I know if I lost a limb it would devastate me.  He gives others something to look up to.  I also think that, at the same time, it shows the world that not everyone who's good at something has to be straight.

I personally wish she would have just stayed in the closet!!  Like how they use their "moment" to publicize something like that...whatever

They got gold because they are a good soccer team, not because of someone's sexual preference.

Seriously.

what it is , is great athletes.  gold is given to outstanding performance.  it doesnt always have to be about sex, age, or race
