Paypal has a new process for Identification
« on: August 07, 2012, 06:58:47 pm »
This process is rolling out among all Paypal account holders. When I first found out I  :BangHead: anyway they told me that I woould need a picture ID Proof of Address and my SSN card. I faxed the picture ID (License), but I was not comfortable sending my SSN card. I called customer support the first time and explined that I was not comfortable with this, and they told me I had to do it. Needless to say I called back the next day and got a new representative who told me that I had made a good faith effort to identify myself, and the limitation on my account was removed. You are now forwarned that this might interfere with some cashouts.

This is stupid why is this needed if the linked bank account has all this info?  ???

I noticed a few months ago and it is very annoying. I am not going to give any more private details then I originally had to. It still seems to be okay for receiving payments from survey sites but the problem arises when you want to "Add Funds" from your back account.

If the problem moves to receiving PayPal funds from FC (or any other site) it may be time to switch on-line payment account systems. Does anyone know of any other useable and trustworthy on-line systems?

That's frustrating.  I really hope I don't have to go through that cause I felt bad enough carrying my information around when I had to get my license.  I'm not gonna be happy just handing it to someone who I can't see.

AFAIK, this has always been Paypal's policy. They do this if either your account is showing suspicous activity or you have a Business/Premiere account where you're requesting a Paypal Debit Mastercard for the first time to be delievered to your address or something else.

One time this happened to me before...I just called and they immediately lifted the limitation as soon as they knew I was the owner without having to submit any of those documents.

That isn't new. I just sent proof of address by a picture of my bank statement of the account linked to it. They lifted it without proof of my social.

:( Darn, I just changed my addy with paypal and I noticed on one page it said unconfirmed.  I have to agree with those who think this is kind of too way too much.  I had to put in my password to change the addy and my addy was changed with my bank so I don't know if its gonna be a problem yet but I sure am not in the mood - thanks for the word up.

WOndering if you had some sort of dispute with a transaction.  This can sometimes elevate an awareness by PayPal.  I once had something weird going on with Paypal, maybe I just could'nt remember my pw.  lol not sure.  Anyways, years later I notice i have two paypal acconts.  One had my cc and the other bank account.  Well, I finally fixed this month ago or so and have no problems using either my cc or bank account.  lol
Then again, I was a huge ebay seller and buyer for years, so this may have showed my faith.  Also, they can verify through my checking account that I am who I am.  I would never send my SScard.  That seems to be a little weird, even SS will say dont give this number to anyone as it is not neccessary.  They should have other means to do this by.  Even though my ID has my SSN on it, which i elect to do.  Also, maybe if you move alot.  Or inactive for some time.  Not sure why this happend, just get it taken care of and you will be good.

Paypal has always had a "verification" system, but it usually involves either having a "verified" or "unverified" account.  I went through it, but it only involved them sending me a postcard with a confirmation code on it or something like that and it was only when I started selling on Ebay that I needed to "verify".  Really sounds like a scam what you went though.  They can also do the process through verifying your checking account.

sounds like a scam to me....I've had paypal for years and I've never heard of any request like this. part of the point of paypal is to make it a safer way to transfer funds without you having suspicious things like that happening.

:o After reading the initial post I went to paypal to see if it would require anything for me to transfer/withdraw money and it didn't.  I made my new address "my home" and even deleted one of my bank accounts so I would be suspicious of what happened to you. Weird.  Hope it doesn't give you any more concern.
