Pets and Babys
« on: August 07, 2012, 11:09:44 am »
I have three dogs and two cats. I have a room set up just for my cats and I have been keeping my dogs outside because I have just had a baby. Does anyone know when is a good time to let the animals met the baby?

It should be a gradual process. You can start by letting your dogs see the baby  through the door.Once they get used to seeing the baby, you could let them come up to the baby one at a time and as long as they aren't overly excited, let them sniff the baby. Cats can probably see the baby the same way. I have never had cats around a new baby before, but it will be a learning process for everyone. Congratulations on the new addition and good luck.

Let the dogs and cats smell the baby's used dippers. Allow the animals to see you caring for the baby as a part of introduction. Don't keep the animals away from the baby while you there. Most of the time the animals will watch the baby for you and let you know if the baby is crying. Most of the time dogs are great with kids and will protect them. Keep the baby in crib and allow the dogs in baby's room. If  the dog grow in strong voice say "NO"
