how do you earn forum bonus? do you have to post in a forum a certain number of times before the end of the month?

You asked how to earn the Forum Bonus.  In short answer, to earn the $3.00 Forum Bonus, all you need to do is
"post a minimum of 30 qualifying posts per month AND request your bonus."

A Qualifying post is one that is "contributory" -- meaning your post has some substance to it, not just a one word reply.   Your posts can carry on a conversation, answer a question, make people laugh, etc.

I suggest you post a few posts every day so that you don't find yourself at month's end needing to post a huge number of posts.  It is easy to do just a few every day.  (Plus it is fun!)

Here is a bit more information on the Forum Posting Bonus:

There is a 9 post per day limit for Newbies.  After you pass the "Newbie" status, the 9 post per day limit gets lifted.

Here's the list of number of posts needed for each title:
