is it still aching? :( whenever I get my back aches it's usually because I've been sitting/sleeping in odd positions or I've been working out after a period of idleness. If it's the former, then you should work on consciously fixing your posture. If the latter, then you should stop working out and rest for a week to see if the pain gets better.
Also stretch your back regularly as well. I think this stretch should help your shoulder blade area pain:
instructions: http://www.topendsports.com/medicine/stretches/shoulder-overhead.htm

And in regards to using oil, you rub it on your skin. At least, that's what I'm used to doing. Definitely go see a doctor if the pain has been ongoing for so long. Feel better!

Glad it helped you guys! I also want to mention this stretch that I like to do following the previous one:
it's listed as the 'Tricep Press' here: http://www.hmsa.com/go/letsgo/stretching.asp

These two stretches always help me with my back :)

A chiropractor would do wonders and make you feel great.  That might be a short term answer though.  Any stretching you can do would go a long way.  Good luck with it.

I lay flat on the hard floor, it seems to help. I hurt mine a couple weeks ago by carrying a watermelon, not good.

A visit to the chiropractor or an acupuncture specialist will help reduce back pain and its frequency.

How about a hot bath with epson salt? That can help relieve pain!
I wouldn't suggest the chiropractor- once you go, you ALWAYS have to go or you're a mess!
Try a REAL MD, and let them evaluate you, and maybe some type of exercise can help rather than jacking you up for life!! Sorry for all those who disagree!!!

I just discovered "Nature's Inventory" online.
They have essential oils for relief of almost anything.
I found something for my situation.
