I don't really watch reality TV that much, because I absolutely hate the fact that most of it is staged, and they leave one little thing real, so they can legally call it "Reality TV", some shows are more staged then others, and some are so staged in your face kind of shows, like the Reality Court shows, everything is staged, the only real thing in there are the cases. The judgements are paid by the show, not only does the show pay the rulings, but the litigants are payed for their appearance ($100 each + a certain amount per day of taping. It takes a few days to tape each case apparently), and their hotel rooms are comped. So they get a free vacation out of the whole thing too. (even the courtroom audience is paid as extras, and they're told to laugh on cue and fake conversation amongst themselve so the Judge can say "all quiet in the courtroom"). The bad guys, or wrong-doers don't actually pay for anything. That is blatant for me. Reality TV shows that are less pretentious, and offer more reality and aren't as staged I watch every now and then.

Some people do think its a waste to watch. But if you think about it, its entertainment. Who would volunteer to go on television and make complete idiots of themselves in front of everyone unless staged or getting paid bug bucks. For the right price i would do it. I don't think their lives are relly like this. I enjoy watching.

I've only ever been interested in one reality TV show - and that wasn't a real reality TV show either.  I don't remember what it was called, but it was a military competition show on the USA Network that took the best of the LAPD, Marines, Navy Seals, Green Berets...  And put them head to head.  It lasted only one season - probably because it was actually a good show.  Every other show I like that could be called a "reality show" is a competition show like that.

reality tv is terrible; I don't care for jersey shore or the kardashian show. It shows how dull some people are and most of the shows are in bad taste, i.e bad influences.

Interestingly I have gotten interested in a few reality shows America's Top Model is one of them.  I didn't think I would ever watch anything like these shows, but find them quite entertaining.  It's fun to see young people getting the opportunity to do what they have dreamed of doing and also get a good idea early on of what it takes to achieve their goals.  Some of the dreams that young people have are glamorized in the media.  Often the reality of these jobs aren't advertised.  Show like America's Top Model do help to teach what will be expected of someone entering the field of modeling. Good topic thanks for posting!

I do not care that much for Reality TV. I like the scripted stuff, but uses real life sciences. Some examples are CSI and Law and Order.
