I recently put PC Tool Spyware Doctor on my laptop (in Safe Mode) to remove a Security Shield virus that appeared on my machine (see thread in Support section of this Forum).  It didn't do the job as promised.

Have you used any PC Tools software products in the past?  What experience (good or Bad) have  you had.

Would you recommend that I remove it from my PC?  Do I have to remove it in Save Mode (since that's where I installed it) or will uninstalling it in normal mode be sufficient?

I am really concerned that this software is a malicious program and that when I installed it, I jumped from the frying pan into the fire.

Spyware Doctor is fine. I don't have any personal experience, but it's a legit program. But if you want, uninstalling from normal should be fine.

I'm surprised Malware isn't working for you. Did you update it while in Safe Mode and run it?
I once had a virus (or whatever) that wouldn't let me update or even turn Malware on when I turned it off and had to go to safe mode for it.

Do you mean Malwarebytes Anti-Malware?

I do have that and I think it's working fine.  I did run after PC Tools failed to remove Security Shield.  That run may have successfully removed Security Shield -- at least I'm not getting the pop-ups any more.

The PC Tools Spyware Doctor is another anti-virus software I just downloaded and while it might be working for some things, it was not able to remove the Security Shield virus.

In addition, my laptop is running slower -- perhaps because I have both PC Tools and MacAfee running.

I use Avast Anti-Virus, which is very good at blocking and removing virus's and malware, even though it is the free version, but still works very well. There is also a malicious software removal tool that you can download from Microsoft. Here is a link to that page where you can download it from to make it easier for you.
