Raw food
« on: June 12, 2012, 11:36:23 pm »
I recently had a sample of raw hummus at a local health food store. The taste was so good, and the recipe was simple, and the only ingredients were sprouted chick peas, tahini, EVOO, lemon juice, garlic, and some tamari. Blend everything to a puree. Any raw food enthusiasts out there?

I've spent time on a raw food diet.  I lived on it for 6 weeks and lost 13 lbs. during that time.  I think it's because everything in the diet was low sodium.

Hummus was a problem for me because my immune system doesn't like tahini.  I have to stay away from sesame seeds if I don't want to have a reaction.

I still use a certain salad dressing that I love.  It's equal parts of olive oil, apple cider vinegar and Braggs liquid aminos.
Have a great day!

I've read many benefits of following a raw food diet; just don't think I could do it though.

I have some friends that have done it and really lost weight, felt better and more energy. I don't think I could do it though because of its expense and eliminating so many foods and preparation methods from my diet would be difficult.

I do prefer raw food! :) I can adapt to this kind of diet on a daily basis. It is much healthier with the enzymes intact for the body to break down the food consumed in the digestive system. If anybody want to shed some weight, just start by gradually adopting more raw (preferably vegan) food into your diet.

Oh yes!   We do LOTS of raw food.   Mostly salads, but there are times, when we want a green onion stick, or raw purple onion, with a slice of tomato.

We also like chopping up raw asparagus, yellow squash, broccoli, cauliflower, red bell peppers, with green and purple onions,  and putting a tad of Sweet Basil dressing on it for a yummy raw food treat.

We also like raw fruits, like bananas, strawberries, raspberries, pineapple, blueberries, and chopped apples.

We do eat meat.  Fish and salmon.  Chicken and beef, free range, anti-biotic free, grass fed beef and eggs, but we don't eat those raw.  We bake.  Eggs are either boiled or soft scrambled in butter.

We supplement ALOT too.

I want to become a raw food enthusiast, but just haven't started the quest yet.  I've been seeing videos on the wonders of raw foods (including slow aging and vibrant health) and have been incorporating more uncooked vegetables into my diet, but not as much as I'd like.

Years ago I tried raw chickpeas and loved them so I would imagine that the raw hummus would be wonderful.
I love raw veggies, fruits, nuts and seeds, and try to make at least 50-75% of my diet raw. However, I enjoy cooked foods too much to give up and I believe they too have their own health benefits regardless of the "experts" out there that say otherwise.

Good food is good food. I am not particularly a raw foods enthusiast but I believe in good nutrition. I must say that is a great way to get some delicious protein and it tastes great with vegetable chips. Thank you for the recipe. :D :D :D

Hummus is a bean dip made from chickpeas and tahini (ground sesame seeds) sea salt and lemon juice. It is really delicious imho and healthy too.

I am not a big health fanatic, but I do like salads. And fruit is much better raw than cooked. I could never give up meat, though, and I like pasta too much to give up either. I mostly try to stay away from overly-processed, full of preservatives, canned and packaged foods. Also, I try to avoid sugar. Honey is a lot better because it has the nutrients to help your body digest and use the natural sugar in it. Regular sugar doesn't have those nutrients.
