Bath and Body Stores
« on: June 10, 2012, 07:49:10 am »
Have you ever wondered why those stores smell so nice? When you walk in and smell the sweet scents, you just want to buy the whole store but you settle for one or two items only to get home and realized that you NEED to buy the whole store to recreate the lovely smell at your home.  :BangHead:

In short it takes ALL the scents in the store to make that ONE lovely smell that encourages you to pull out your credit card, debit card or cash to buy.  :crybaby2:

Your posting is written so well that I can picture the experience of walking in the store and smelling all the combined smells. And you are so right - it does cause the buyer to want to buy more, more, more to recreate that experience.  What an amazing marketing technique! And it all comes from just displaying the product - even better.  No additional costs to market the product!  Thanks for your post and have a great day!

lol, yes, i totally agree with you. bbw does have great quality
candles though, and i like their wallflowers sometimes.
its kind of a racket though, when finding the perfect scent
thats actually strong and will last. i have only tried a few
so far but i always wait for coupons so i can experiment!

look at marshalls and tj maxx. you can find the large yankee
candles for $10
[ we all have a place in history. mine is in the clouds. ]

I love Bath and Body Works. But I have sensitivities/allergies so I have to be careful with what I get from there. I am a natural/organic product junkie though. Just got some shampoo and conditioner from a line by Burt's Bees called Gud. And it is  :)

I used to work at a bath and body store and they do smell really great! I love wearing scented lotions and oils and burn scented candles. It's very relaxing to be surrounded by a beautiful scent all day lond and enjoy the candles when you are home  :)

I sort of wonder whether the scent is all from the products, or if they actually pump in scent into the store (eg have "Plug-ins" in outlets around the room). There was a Perkins not too far away that did a similar thing; they had apples and cinnamon scented Plug-ins placed in some of the outlets near the bakery counter, and people would smell it and get hungry for pie. The general manager stated that although the scent of the pies coming out of the ovens could've sold themselves, the ovens were located next to the kitchen where other food smells were coming out, so the Plug-ins were there mainly to amplify the pie smells rather than a pure marketing gimmick.

What a great post and one that makes you think. Do you have to have all the scents, how much, could you just buy a little of each, do you need to open them or is ok to leaving in bottle, hey made you just get the packing boxes and that would work. What a way to have us all think on a Monday am.
