In the Hmong culture,

a lot of familys try to avoid having 2 marriages in a year.

Well, more for boys. Because the boys have to pay for their brides,
hmong family's don't want to have to pay for 2 wives in 1 year
because back in the olden days,

the family wouldn't even have enough to pay for 1 wife.

When you say 'pay for' is that like a dowry which would be some monetary benefit that the husband brings to the union or payment for the service or payment for the girl?

I have great respect for the Hmong. I have read a little about their history and they have great strength of character and are loyal and hard working. I am of European ancestry and my family has been in the USA for 200 years but I would try to avoid 2 weddings in a year too. That is a lot of stress on any family. But any loving family can make it work if they all pull together. God bless you and your family.
