Redirects
« on: May 29, 2012, 01:55:02 pm »
I've been getting redirected to random pages when I click on say page 2 or 3 of a post. Noticed a lot of advertising jumps randomly inserted in the forum posts. Do I have a redirect virus on my computer or is anyone else being shanghaied to parts unwanted just because you want to check a different page of a post?

I tried clicking on page 2 and 3 of a couple of the posts in FC and did not have any problem with redirects or pop-ups.

I do have problem similar to this on some sites -- seems that when I click on the login or start doing the PTC's, I get 3 big pop-up ads.  I just close them and move on.  Happens on more than one site and I figure there is something on my machine or on the sites I'm using (or the web page I'm viewing that is initiating the pop-ups.)

Don't know how to identify what causing the problem or how to resolve it -- so I just deal with it and move on.

If anyone else has a clue about what is causing this, please let us know.

Run a scan for adware and such?

Just finished re-imaging my computer two weeks so it's a pretty clean setup.  Adware scan ran day before yesterday and cleaned along with a virus scan.  Just lucky in hitting redirect links I guess.

I run Malwarebytes periodically and use Avast for security -- both of which identify problem ads/sites as I work.  Neithor have found problems during a total pc scan.

Good, (for both of you).  I take such complete scans and re-imaging checked your registries as well, (some adware/malware 'likes' to hide in the registry and "pose" as /win files)?

I use to run CClearner to clean out my registry files as well as cookies and temps.   Haven't done that recently because when it clears my cookies it takes EVERYTHING out -- unlike the IE tool that keeps my temps/cookies for my favorites in.

What do you use to clean your registry files?
