Didn't exactly dumpster dive saturday but up the street they had a pile of junk that was free and I got a bookcase and a great kitchen step stool. I was excited. I would go looking in dumpsters if I saw something I could use.

I haven't dumpster dived, but I have dug through my personal trash. I was looking for my memory stick, and luckily found it. I still have no idea how it ended up there to begin with.

You could recycle bottles to your nearest recycling center.

I don't go dumpster diving, but if someone puts something to side of the dumpster that they don't want i might pick it up. Our drivers will only dump what is in the bin. This was a nice picnick table that wouldn't fit in the bin. It made a great potting table for me and i don't worry about messing up my good one. I guess to each his own.

I don't think I could dumpster dive..I have a sensitive nose and a strong gag reflex! In the dumpster behind my office, someone threw a dead goat! Yuck!!!!( I did not go out there, I was told about it.)

A breadmaker next to a dumpster. My sister found it and replaced the cord and it works great.

It's something I've been wanting to do, particularly around stores like Gamestop.
Part of my old job was picking up litter, and I'd occasionally find neat things. I found bags full of old beer and soda cans and bottles in the trash/storage area. Those, combined with the ones I had picked up throughout the season turned into about $80.

We have gotten boxes out of dumpsters from local small stores when ever we were moving, needed to box and mail something we sold on Ebay or something like that.  There was a time, too, that we knew when one grocery store in particular threw out the outdated veggies (lettuce, carrots, etc.) and it was a great money saver when we had rabbits and pigs to feed..

Now, one of the places I work gets a lot of parts wrapped in bubble wrap...and they just pitch it in the trash...Do you know how expensive bubble wrap is???  I save some from time to time for packaging things to be mailed safely.

There are people that go around on trash night and pick up metal ...they fill up truck loads going around all the neighborhoods and get pretty good money for scrap...and any time we have something bigger, even if it's not trash night, we just set it out next to the curb and someone will come along and pick it up....we have gotten rid of a bed, a night stand, an ironing board...and I see a lot of people set things out like that....someone will always stop and pick it up.  But if it is helping someone that needs something like that and cannot afford to buy it...then so be it...more power to them for not being so vain that they can do that if they need to.

I've only dumpster dived a couple of times and one of them definitely wasn't worth it. One was years ago when someone accidentally tossed my compilation of Coke Reward cardboard codes in the dumpster and by the time I found them they were unreadable (I enter the codes immediately nowadays). The other time was an improper disposal of a computer at my old work place. I had to retrieve this as the hard drive wasn't "wiped" properly. I end up dropping this off later for recycling.

I actually never dumpster dived nor looked through garbage. But if I ever saw anything that looked like new and something I could use I would take it.
