There's a lot of beach where I live. I mean, we even have BEACH in the city name! I love taking the metal detector out and enjoying the fresh air at the beach. Sometimes I feel like I'm doing community service with the number of keys/cellphones/etc that I've pulled up.

We found a lot of silver metal detecting.  We used to take the kids to a "members only" lake in the summer time.  We found a little bit of silver there however we found a LOT of money in front of the concession stand.  It was everywhere we looked!  A strange place we've found quite a bit of money is in the "devil strip" by the street (the grass between the sidewalk and the street.
Our metal detector became obsolite.  The batterys are no longer available.  It would make a great gift for hubby some day when we can afford a nice one.  All told we probably didn't find much more than 100 bux in all our searching.
We found a couple rings that might be worth something.  One looks like a really old class ring.  An interesting thing we noticed with detecting is the pennies.  The newer pennies are a mess.  You can barely clean them off.  They have bad "pits" in them and are literally falling apart.  They don't make pennies like they used to that's for sure!
Metal detecting makes for a fun "togetherness" activity for old married couples lol.  A warning to the ladies.. forget about nice fingernails if you're gonna go digging!!

It's really important to have a good detector. Otherwise you're just wasting your time.

I always thought that it would be really fun to try, I live in pa, so there is probably a lot of really cool war stuff in the ground around here.  Plus my great grandparents live right by gettysburg so there would definitely be something to find there, but it seems like the equipment would be really expensive.  Cool hobby if you can afford it though, and I have heard that it can really pay off big sometimes if you are lucky.
