Well, think about this - where did all the 'material' that created the BIG BANG come from?

Superstring, emergent and otehr theories attempt to account for this.  I'm not saying that they conclusively do however, there's no need to bring religiously superstitious beliefs in to account for the big bang theory as the univeres' origins may turn out to something other than that. 

Most people, (although there are still a few extant), no longer attribute natural phenomenon to "thunder g-ds" or "fertility goddesses" these days.  Why is that?
