Why do surveys ask the same question twice?
« on: March 23, 2012, 07:15:59 pm »
Such as 'how many children do you have' and 'how many children living in your house'. Ludicrous, but hilarious  :dontknow: ;D I don't have kids and I get this question everyday with various surveys.

Many survey clients will not pay a survey-taker if their responses are inconsistent, rushed or, apparently random. Rephrasing the same questions in different ways can sometimes reveal such aspects, (unless the survey-taker is a consistent liar).
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

Sometimes you are put through for survey X. You answer you have no children which survey X wants-so the site will automatically put you through to survey Y to see if you qualify for that one.

They want quality assurance. Imagine how many people are taking the same survey, they can weed out the inconsistent ones that way.

Bingo!  That's it.  To catch people in a lie.

I mean....that's just the way it goes....it's annoying when they ask the same exaction question twice, usually at beginning and end (ie., what's your age)....like it's going to change or something....perhaps it's a test to see if you're lying or not?

I guess it really doen't matter actually!  They can ask me what is my favorite ice cream 47 times in a row, and long as they pay me to answer it!

As several members have posted... to keep you honest.  You are being paid to give honest answers.  On occasion you will even see lines in questionaires telling tou to mark a certain line for quality control to make sure you aren't just randomly clicking through the survey.

Yeah, it is pretty annoying. I think most of the answers have been covered here: quality assurance and to see if you might qualify for another survey. What really gets annoying is when they ask the same question four, five, or even six times. It makes you think they are not listening to you, but in reality they are making sure that you are consistent and paying attention to what you put down. I also think that you have to go through several layers of qualification questions to get to the actual survey, which may be another reason. An earlier poster mentioned that they will ask you to select a certain answer to make sure you are paying attention and are not just some bot running through it. I don't see that nearly as often as the repeating of questions. Maybe if they put in more of those "select this answer" questions, it would be a less repetitive way of checking for the survey takers attention and not be as tedious for the survey taker.  :cat:

Part of the repetition is for quality assurance to ensure you're consistent. A liar might not remember what was said before. But on the other spectrum some are just poorly designed. One particular survey partner (not naming names) has a notoriously bad record doing this.

Yeah they do that on purpose to see if you are going to change your answers. Sometimes they will even ask the same question but re word. This one survey I took today I swear they asked me every question twice.
