I use Free Avast and sometimes Search Spy and Destroy (Spybot)

You might want to create more then one computer user account.

I experienced that when you get a virus, if you have another account you can still use it. Go to your other account and then delete your messed up account. It worked for me  ;D ... didn't have to go pay for it to get cleaned. I also used Spybot after I deleted my messed up account.

I have used McAfee for years.  Never had a virus plus they also pre check web sites for you and let you know if they can be dangerous to visit.  My  sister used Norton and sure enough they have had their computer in the shop several times due to getting viruses.  I swear by McAfee.  Good luck to you.

I use AVG and Avast (both free versions) which have worked very well, but the other night Facebook blocked me out of one of my accounts, saying my computer had a virus. They directed me to this page from Microsoft:

http://www.microsoft.com/security/default.aspx

Under the Fix column I ran the Microsoft Safety Scanner and all is well again.

Do you like it? I read a little about that the other night but didn't know if I wanted to uninstall my others.

My experience has been that no antivirus is able to fully protect and if a virus doesn't get you, a hardware problem or Windows update will.  I would go to Linux if I could find any version that fit but haven't had much luck so far  :BangHead:

Right now, nothing, before now Norton's but folks on this topic don't like it so I'll try one of the free ones...

I am currently using Rising Antivirus. It’s free. So far it works great. I used to have Norton Antivirus as I was disappointed my laptop got hacked several months ago. I no longer use Norton and I agree it’s a total waste of money. :sad1: If Rising Antivirus wasn’t available I would use Microsoft Security Essential.
