One worldwide language
« on: March 05, 2012, 05:00:17 pm »
What does everyone think of having 1 language to be used worlwide?

I think it would help tremendously. I am not talking about giving up culture or heredity, but increasing the ability to communicate.

If that were the way then we couldn't learn all these beautiful languages and about the people that speak them.

That would  make life boring. More people need to learn more languages instead of trying to dumb them down by going to one worldwide. There isn't even one language in most countries so worldwide would be ridiculous

our younger generation is dummed down already... not that our kids are dumb. just saying school was alot harder when i was there then it is now in my opinion. They are already taking out some of the fundamentals like cursive writing. They want to make it an elective? How are kids gonna know how to sign thier paychecks?

In the business world the one world language is English. If I don't speak your language and you don't speak mine
According to the bible there was a one world language until 1000 BC.
I was lying in bed the other night, looking up at the stars, and thinking, "Where in the heck is my roof?"

It's too bad that here in our country it seems like we are being forced too speak spainish, what about all the other people from other counries? They are already having too learn our language and yet when youget on the phone all it is english( which is what it should be) and the next thing they they hear is for spainish. Just doesn't seem fair to them.

I don't like the idea of having a worldwide language.  Doing so seems intolerant and discriminatory to me.  Accepting the language and culture of others sends a beautiful message.

I don't think anyone could ever get all the countries around the world to agree to one language;  there would be a tremendous argument over which language it would be for starters.  I believe anyone should be able to learn any language they want to learn but do not believe it is right to force our kids to learn spanish.  The way I've always looked at that, is that people coming to our country should learn our language if they want to, but we should not have to learn theirs.  I don't believe there is another country in the world that forces its people to learn a different language.  And, when you go to visit a different country you need to have a translator yourself cause they sure won't provide you with any help.

The cost to busniess alone would be to great it is less expense to CO. to hire interperters for other languages.

I would agree with you 100%. It is NOT fair. I can't tell you how many jobs I have been turned down for, because I don't speak Spanish. The census, most social service agencies, c-stores, and even retail sales job.

WHO DECIDES WHAT LANGUAGE THATS GOING TO BE?  LANGUAGE IS PART OF CULTURE, THAT WOULD BE LIKE STRIPPING AWAY SOME PEOPLES PERSONAL IDENTITY.   I'M AGAINST THE IDEA FOR THAT REASON

there are 3 common languages of the world, Chinese, Spanish, and English. English is more common around the world, so is Spanish, but Chinese is more common in china, obviously.
