I started this post, I was just credited so I guess you don't have to use the credit card, sorry for wasting everyone's time

I wanna know this too!! I went to the freecreditreport.com offer, which says totally free, but when you go to do it, it makes you put in your credit card. In tiny print it says you'll be charged "recurring fee's" of $14.95 per month to have them "monitor" your credit. ?????    :angry7: :dontknow: :angry7:

Pretty sneaky if you ask me.

The credit report is free, which the site claims, and it is. The thing is that it automatically signs you up, if you tick on the "I agree" box, for another monitoring service that charges you money if you decide to stay with their membership but is temporarily free for the first 7 days or so.

Just read the TOS carefully and you'll be fine.

how long to get the true credit? I filled out the profile but it asked for a credit card for the free trial and I escaped out of that. do you have to put in a CC?

I'm still pretty new here, but in my experience so far, a lot of offers (yeah, even some that say no CC required) will ask you for a CC# up front. This is, I believe, partly to protect the companies from getting scammed by internet users or possibly even by bots that just register on tons and tons of sites without any real person behind them - similar to typing in the verification code when registering on a site ("Put your money where your mouth is," so to speak). You won't be charged anything until the trial period is over, and so giving your CC number up front when signing up for a 'free trial offer' that you're interested in makes the transition to 'full paying customer' that much smoother once the trial period is over. You don't experience a break in your service, and they don't lose a (potential) customer. Makes things easier for everyone all around.
