I see most everyone here buys a branded computer.  There is nothing wrong with that but if you can get beyond the initial intimidation factor, then building your own is certainly the way to go.  You can get much better quality parts for the same price or cheaper (usually, although I have seen a few branded that were pretty much unbeatable at the price offered).  Branded generally use lower quality parts and try and sell features of one part as if it were an additional part (using motherboards with built in graphics and trying to advertise it as if it had a graphics card installed).  I would likely never buy a branded computer, but some of the custom branded (like cyberpowerpc which are very customizable including factory water cooling) I have recommended to people that wanted a good system but didn't want to build it themselves.  If, though, what you buy works for you then that is all that really matters I suppose.

I have an acer mini laptop, it's just good enough for my needs of checking emails and typing up my resume and things like that. In the market for a new one since this one is only being lent to me for now. I may go for a tablet to take the place of my android phone for apps and games and to use the internet too and be portable.

I have an e machine desktop that I'm not real thrilled with and a Netbook by HP.  I use it a lot unless I'm going to be doing some major typing.  I prefer the standard keyboard for that.  I keep thinking I'd like an ipad but that's silly at this point.....I guess it would be considered more of a toy right now.  I heard last night that the next ipad will be out soon....I'll have to see what it has to offer.  I already have an iphone.  I'm not sure if I should stick with the i stuff or what.  I know the other tablet brands are cheaper.  Anybody have thoughts on the matter?

We have a couple of computers in the house.  My son makes computers and sales them, so we always have different ones.  I use a HP laptop most of the time, but I also use the tabet that my son received as a gift.  He didn't like it so he gave it to me.  We have a dell laptop that my husband uses, and a acer also.  but I like my laptop the best.  Computers are always changing so you don't know how long they one you have will work for the things that you want to do.

Custom built.

Intel i7 2600-K non overclocked
Nvidia GTX Ti 550
4GB DDr3
1TB hdd

That's the most important parts anyway.

Nice, although I rank PS as critically important above all others, and mobo certainly above memory and hdd.

I have a HP Desktop which is awesome. I also have a 2 year old Fijitsu laptop which is nice and I haven't had any problems with it.
