Text Message Scam

I had a party text me re: a camera I had put up for sale. This party sounded interested, wanted to know the condition, my final price etc etc (all this going back and forth via texting on my cell phone), I thought I had a legitimate buyer, he asked where I was located I told him (thinking he would come by to look at it and possibly make and offer), I found out he is in New York, buying it for a friend in South Africa, (Red Flag went up in my head), he then text to ask if I had PayPal, (I do, but I told him no.), He said I could set up a PayPal account and we could complete the transaction that way and he would even pay the shipping. (Oh Boy).  I said no thanks, and suddendly no more texts.

My questions is, I think he would try and send money to PayPal, and somehow access my account, or somehow when I went to deposit to my bank, sent him the camera etc, then all of a sudden the bank would come back telling me the funds were no good. Therefore I am out the money, no camera, and probably compromised my PayPal account.

Anyone out there have this happen to them.
