Bluetooth's!!! More Government intrusion!!!

It started in 1962 when a "I know what's best for you." guy named Ralph Nader made it where we were forced by the Govt to wear seat-belts. From that start we next got emmision control procedures, airbags, etc etc. Now we're forced to have a  Bluetooth on while driving. What's next? No longer able to drive and eat? What other freedoms are we going to lose in the near future cause the Govt decide's whats good and not for us. When do we, as American citizens stand up and say "NO MORE!!!!!". Tell me what you think. A concerned citizen who loves his country.

I remember as a kid being able to ride in the bed of a pickup and it wasn't an issue but the days of being free are long gone.

Talking on a cell phone when you're driving is just as bad as driving drunk.  This isn't about taking "freedom" away, it's about common sense and keeping people safe.  If you want to be "free," go live in some anarchist land and see how well that works out for you.

And bluetooth is the name of the technology.  A bluetooth headset or other connection is what you're referring to.

You sound like you came from my generation!! I have been saying this for years, especially when my Kids were going to school in the 1990's and their school were giving out condoms to the female students, without parental permission. By the way, I believe it is (in some states) illegal to eat and drive. I know it is illegal to text and drive, or use your cell phone while driving in alot of the Northeast. I am just waiting for the government to tell you what you can eat for dinner, or taxing you double or triple on the things in the grocery store that they deem, not good for you! Just wait that is coming soon!!

I think if people as individuals were more responsible the government would not have to impose these things, It is good to wear your seatbelts, It is good to not be talking on your cell phone while driving. I think there are more important things to be complain about.

Car insurance companies lobby for the laws. They do not want to pay out maximum benefits for a terrible crash. It's not uncommon for insurance companies to update a county's radar guns so that they can give out speeding tickets and hike your premiums.  The moral of the story is that if you want things done your way, fund a campaign. Sad.

eating and drinking should NOT be banned for drivers... when we are on the go and have no time to eat at home, we eat in the car... why does the government have to make that illegal.

Somewhat true!! The total reason behind it is that county's/towns/states,Fed get more income through tickets. In DC they put up speed camera's everywhere. This is done by a contractor which outlays the money to do the work and then splits the cut with DC. DC has colleted over 30 Million dollars (just their portion) and have 11 million deliguent on their tickets. All these laws are about Money!!And how a jurisdiction can take in more!!Governor Kain from VA. Tried to install a $1,000.00 surcharge on any VA resident that got caught speeding, anywhere in the state. Not on people traveling through the state, just VA residents. Luckily it got trown out of VA court due to Constitution issues. Yes alot of these laws are good and keep us safe but, that is not the true reasoning behind it, when it comes to any government, state/federal whatever!!And yes people need to get more involved but, who keeps track of all the laws the Fed puts out or even the state they live in and get involved. And if you look back to the 60's before seat belts became mandatory in cars, fatal accidents were lower that they are now. You had less cars then also then you have now. Back then you were lucky if you had one per household, most people could not afford a car back then. Now you have 1 per person in the house, as long as their driving age. Yes we have to get back to personal responsibility and get Govt out of our everyday lives.

Wow, what a great leader we have .

Lobbying should be illegal. The government is supposed to represent us, the voters who elect them, not the big companies with their unending bribe money.

We are all supposed to be responsible adults, we don't need the government keeping us "safe." That kind of thinking is what is destroying our freedom in this country. Talking on a cell phone isn't necessarily dangerous, although it can be. But it is no more dangerous than eating or drinking while driving, or even listening to the radio!

Exactly.  Texting and driving and talking on the phone while driving can be deadly.  I see no problem with using a hands free device if it's going to save more lives.  People are a lot more distracted when doing these things.  I was hit a few years ago by someone who was talking on their cell phone because they weren't paying attention.  It's illegal in my state and it has it's place.  Not only is it going to save money in your pockets because your insurance might not go up so much because of the acts of others but what if it were your loved one killed or paralyzed because they or or another driver was distracted by cell phone usage while driving?

You might want to do some research before stating such things as this. Why? It was not Obama behind this, it was the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board). You have a problem with this, obviously, but I prefer those 'pesky little' 80,000 pound rigs do have regulations like this. Do you actually want a trucker barreling down the highway you're on with your loved ones while he/she is talking/texting on their phone while also [attempting] to pay attention to traffic, idiots who cut them off, and rolling through 16+ gears?! I know I don't and I'm fairly sure the many thousands who have been killed or permanently 'crippled' via untimely encounters with an out of control big rig would feel the same way. I don't want the government telling me how to live either, but this law should be a no-brainer for everyone - those who have a working brain and an iota of common sense anyway.

How is this a bad thing for commercial drivers to use hands free?  They are the most dangerous always tailgating and speeding.  The results would be even more devastating if they hit a car while distracted.

Yes this is a horrific accident!!And it should not have happened!! The answer is not to make more laws or Traffi fines really!! In a case of the first time I would suspend a license for a period of time and have to take classes and pass a test prior to getting back on the road. I think this would be more of a deterant and safer for the individuals on the road. My point is some people can always pay the fines and get right back on the road - Where does that help the driving public, just another accident waiting to happen. Yes, this guy or gal will never do it again but, you can't regulate or fine irresponsible actions away.
