So what does it mean when they ask you "Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, SO HELP YOU GOD?"

It means that the witness has not informed the judge that they do not believe in "god" and will instead swear to tell the truth, sans 'bible'.

Ummm....last time I checked, it was Christians who came here and declared this land as their own. That makes it based on Christianity since they would have, naturally, based laws and regulations on their own beliefs.

Last time I checked, there were already people living on the continent, (who were _not_ xtians), before some colony of puritans ran away from England to "escape religious persecution".  This country was not 'claimed in the name of a xtian god', nor does the U.S. constitution specify that.

If your going to violate the concepts of Christianity, like marrying someone of the same sex, then go violate them in a country that's not founded on Christianity.

Actually, since the U.S. is not a 'xtian' country, I'm free to "violate" any concepts of any specious religion should I choose to do so, (insofar as such does not violate secular laws).  Not only do I choose to do disregard the specious concepts of xtianity, I vehemently oppose them, (something the U.S. constitution permits).

Well if it's ok to violate religious concepts, does that mean incest is ok? Would you like it if your dad was coincedently your brother? Incest is based on a religous concept, one that was mandated long before the studies showing genetic malfunctions from it.

Several individual states have secular laws against incest, (Missouri, Alabama, Nebraska and Alaska among them).  Secondly, people had already figured out that the children born of incest might not turn out like other kids, (and this was thousands of years before the cult of xtianity arrived and before some jumbled religious text gleaned mostly from _other_ religions was jotted down).

If religion is so blind, then why is it that 3/4 of the world believes in a god?

A hazard guess would be that the world's population is predominately superstitious.

Why is it that we do, contrary to what you think, base our ways of living (laws and what-not), on concepts of religion? It's not a coincidence that we bury the dead in the ground. It has to do with religous beliefs stemming from thousands of years ago that we still implement.

Actually, burial, (and different funerary practices), stemmed from various pagan rituals which had nothing to do with latter xtian practices.

Your existence on this earth is a God-given right. Without god, you wouldn't be here.

Your assertions are demonstrably false and are based upon empty beliefs alone.  Without my parents, I wouldn't be here and neither of them were deities.

But maybe you don't believe in God? But isn't that blind as well?

Your question encompasses a common fallacy; believing in something which lacks an evidential basis, (blind faith), is not equivalent to rejecting such beliefs for the same reason.

Can you prove or disprove the existence of God?

Neither can be 'proven' therefore, a lack of evidence does not constitute evidence of what is believed.  If someone is contending that 'god exists', they can either produce unambiguous evidence to support their claim or, they are making a false claim.  Although one may prove non-existence in special limitations, such as showing that a box does not contain certain items, one cannot prove universal or absolute non-existence, or non-existence out of ignorance. One cannot prove something that does not exist. The proof of existence must come from those who make the claims.

And I'd love to see someone go into a court and say "Oh, I'm sorry, I'd rather not swear to tell the truth" and see how far it gets them!

If you can read through your beer glasses, you'd be able to see that's not what I wrote.  What I did write mentioned swearing an oath to tell the truth without invoking 'god' or putting your hand on a book.  Once again, there is no _legal_ requirement to do so and a witness need only swear, under consequence of perjury, to give truthful testimony.  I've even done this in traffic court, (which resulted in a case-dismissed unrelated to oath-swearing).

Excellent!  Even it it's nonrefundable, I can probably sell it for a discounted profit on eBay. Keep up the good work, man.

Wow Falcon I'm really starting to believe you have no life. It's okay honey. We can help . Start by logging off of Fusion Cash and checking out some other websites. In the meantime, stop using the same posts for replies to other people's posts! It's kinda annoying. I'd like to hear something new, not something you told me already in the past 3 posts. Also, congratulations, because you totally have been avoiding the real topic at hand by attempting to insert statements regarding nothing to do with the topic! Noboby is talking about xtian or whatever the hell it is you keep brining up! But good job trying to smother the topic!

pelicans are a pretty bird

So are red herrings, (unless they're fish).  Either way, they're somehow not quite as pretty when they're crapping on your car.

Rent a limo and make that a first class ticket too while you're at it.

It could be that your reading comprehension would significantly improve were it not for the alcohol consumption however, I'm disinclined to hold my breath awaiting such an outcome.  Essentially the same responses were made to repetitions of the same false assertions made.  An easy way to avoid that is to cease making those false assertions, (that way, the refutations won't get repeated).

Also, congratulations, because you totally have been avoiding the real topic at hand by attempting to insert statements regarding nothing to do with the topic! Noboby is talking about xtian or whatever the hell it is you keep brining up! But good job trying to smother the topic!

Well, I responded to specious dodge of 'god-given rights', which was not initiated by me.  If the original topic was 'smothered', it was by a fundamentalist assertion, (which was challenged and that challenged avoided ... this outcome was not a shocker).

That randomness no doubt worsens as more beer is consumed by another participant in this conversation.  At least they appear to be having fun posting while progressively more inebriated.
