So what does it mean when they ask you "Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, SO HELP YOU GOD?"
It means that the witness has not informed the judge that they do not believe in "god" and will instead swear to tell the truth, sans 'bible'.
Ummm....last time I checked, it was Christians who came here and declared this land as their own. That makes it based on Christianity since they would have, naturally, based laws and regulations on their own beliefs.
Last time I checked, there were already people living on the continent, (who were _not_ xtians), before some colony of puritans ran away from England to "escape religious persecution". This country was not 'claimed in the name of a xtian god', nor does the U.S. constitution specify that.
If your going to violate the concepts of Christianity, like marrying someone of the same sex, then go violate them in a country that's not founded on Christianity.
Actually, since the U.S. is not a 'xtian' country, I'm free to "violate" any concepts of any specious religion should I choose to do so, (insofar as such does not violate secular laws). Not only do I choose to do disregard the specious concepts of xtianity, I vehemently oppose them, (something the U.S. constitution permits).
Well if it's ok to violate religious concepts, does that mean incest is ok? Would you like it if your dad was coincedently your brother? Incest is based on a religous concept, one that was mandated long before the studies showing genetic malfunctions from it.
Several individual states have secular laws against incest, (Missouri, Alabama, Nebraska and Alaska among them). Secondly, people had already figured out that the children born of incest might not turn out like other kids, (and this was thousands of years before the cult of xtianity arrived and before some jumbled religious text gleaned mostly from _other_ religions was jotted down).
If religion is so blind, then why is it that 3/4 of the world believes in a god?
A hazard guess would be that the world's population is predominately superstitious.
Why is it that we do, contrary to what you think, base our ways of living (laws and what-not), on concepts of religion? It's not a coincidence that we bury the dead in the ground. It has to do with religous beliefs stemming from thousands of years ago that we still implement.
Actually, burial, (and different funerary practices), stemmed from various pagan rituals which had nothing to do with latter xtian practices.
Your existence on this earth is a God-given right. Without god, you wouldn't be here.
Your assertions are demonstrably false and are based upon empty beliefs alone. Without my parents, I wouldn't be here and neither of them were deities.
But maybe you don't believe in God? But isn't that blind as well?
Your question encompasses a common fallacy; believing in something which lacks an evidential basis, (blind faith), is not equivalent to rejecting such beliefs for the same reason.
Can you prove or disprove the existence of God?
Neither can be 'proven' therefore, a lack of evidence does not constitute evidence of what is believed. If someone is contending that 'god exists', they can either produce unambiguous evidence to support their claim or, they are making a false claim. Although one may prove non-existence in special limitations, such as showing that a box does not contain certain items, one cannot prove universal or absolute non-existence, or non-existence out of ignorance. One cannot prove something that does not exist. The proof of existence must come from those who make the claims.
