family values
« on: January 30, 2012, 02:04:45 pm »
My grandmother, father's mother, just died.  he hadn't spoken to her in years so she had no idea that both my brothers were married or that she was a great-grandmother through my younger brother.  Well that of course got my aunt (my father's sister) upset.  Because I and my brothers were in the will when I was over at my grandmother's house my aunt let me take whatever I wanted of my grandmother's.  My brother's wife and I were talking and there were two dresses that my grandmother had made which she wanted.  My aunt said that because she was not in the will she was not enitiled to them however if they were still there because they did not sell by goodwill and a state auction she could have them.  I feel that isn't right.  How could she put getting money over family?  A state auction and goodwill were not in the will.  She just wanted to get back the money she lost over payning grandma's medical bills.  How is that honoring the dead?

While I understand that some people are materialistic, my grandmother bea was one of them, I beleive you do not honor someone who has past by seeing how much money could be gotten by selling all their stuff.

While it is important to love and respect your family members one must remain true to who they are.  Still there are times when you just have to keep your mouth shut to avoid a blown out family fued.  I mean I didn't want to fight with my aunt and though I love her I still feel it is wrong to put selling items over family members dispite they not being in a will.  (Though neither was selling the stuff.)
