The Good Old Variety Show
« on: January 25, 2012, 05:43:33 pm »
I wonder how many of you Forum members, remember such Variety Shows as:  Laugh In, The Carol Burnett Show, Flip Wilson, Dean Martin Show, Red Skelton, Jack Benny, The Ed Sullivan Show, Jimmy Dean, Diana Shore, and the Barbara Mandrel Shows, and possibly some more.

Well if you do, then you will understand where I am coming from. Damn, that was good entertainment, covered a variety of issues, comedy and current events of the day, all in a fun way all within the same program, and it really kept you interested and tuned in. I just wish the Major Networks would consider doing something like that again today.

And oh yeah, The Smothers Brothers, and don't forget Sonny and Cher.

Ok, so I have given my age away, but really I was only 3 years old at the time. I just have a very good memory.

I sure do remember those shows. they were so down to earth. I have a friend that looks just like Tommy Smothers. I try to find some of these shows at Walmart in the $5 bin. they are sure hard to find.

I use to watch the carol burnett show at my grand parents house. The Bob Hp[e specials were like that. Also Sonny and Cher and the Osmunds had their own variety shows.

I miss them SO much.  I am sick, sick, sick of the so-called reality shows.

All things come back as "NEW" on TV. One day a producer will "DISCOVER" the variety show and start a "NEW" trend. Wait for it. LOL.

You are so right. The younger generation will think it is new! LOL

I guess old folks do have wisdom.

I agree!  Those old shows kept you laughing and learning at the same time.  Also the cartoons now are something else!

The old shows were just fun to watch.  Mostly now it's just junk.

I didn't like them when I was a kid, but now, wow they are funny.  I miss shows like these.  I can't stand wathcing shows like America's got talent and reality t.v.  Heck even Bonaza is better than that.  I am all for bringing back the good ole shows.
