? for Admin--Spybot found this on my PC from Free Cause
« on: January 20, 2012, 11:55:28 am »
It is called:
Problem:PlayPickle
(SBI $E2C000E6) User settings
HKEY_USERSS-1-5-21-3059747426-2755347053-831415302-1000SoftwareAppDataLowSoftwareFreecause
Kind: 1 entries AdwareC
Registry key
_________________________________________________________
I apologize in advance if anyone else has brought this up. A search regarding toolbar spyware resulted in 0 results. I also have a screenshot of this but didn't see how to add it here so I retyped what Spybot picked up.

Is this just a part of the Software that Spybot is calling Adware or is this something I need to remove. I don't want to remove it if this is part of the toolbar.

Also, everytime my toolbar loads up it appears as a double bar...once fully loaded the second bar disappears...just wondering if this is normal or not.

Thanks for your help. :)

Noticed your query concerning Spybot find. I am of course a newbie here but I have used Spybot years ago. Your choice, but I removed Spybot from my PC. If I remember correctly Spybot was interfering with Internet Explorer in error. I suggest removing Spybot and using Microsoft Security Essentials as your virus/spyware protection. It is free and can be found on the microsoft update site. It does not interfere with FC activities and does a very good job of protecting my PC I think.

I think this is because FreeCause (the company that provides our toolbar) has an option to include additional software.  That functionality is totally disabled in our version of the toolbar, but perhaps SpyBot pings on anything containing the word 'freecause'.  It's only a registry key that it found... it's just a piece of data stored on your computer, it's not an executable program that was detected.  So I'd say it's probably safe to ignore it.

Thank you for your answers newgrandpa and vmcutshall :)....Though I haven't had any problems with Spybot...I will keep that in mind and ask my husband about the other program.

Thank you Admin...Good to know. I will remove that from the Spybot search results. 8)

A couple of other good free protection utilities are:

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, and Avira AntiVir Personal-Free Antivirus.

I used to have spybot, too, but it was maybe a little more advanced than I was (lol!), and I thought it was really an
aggressive program.
I'm sure that means it's much more thorough, but I just couldn't get used to it.

How come it won't play?

Thanks for the names of those other programs Duroz. It's good to have an arsenal of programs to fight spyware and viruses.

Now you may get an idea why I use Linux, all that protection stuff can be ignored.

You are welcome webe4angels and thanks for the recognition. I am a self taught windows "dummy" tee hee. I have no problems with available virus/adware programs but have tried a bunch. Some are very aggressive and can be user unfriendly.

I hope my suggestions helped you solve your FC toolbar problems. Everything working OK now?

Adware isn't really dangerous any way, it can just lag your computer a bit.  I would just use an any time scan program like Malwarebytes.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware is a life saver for sure!  I had a hard time trying to get Win 7 Antivirus 2012 off my computer.  It took over all .exe files.  It took me all night, but I finally got ALL of it off the computer.  I have the Norton's Symantec and it does NOT protect.

Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware saved the day, that's for sure.

It's ironic a free software like malware bytes is more helpful than a Paid AV program.  :icon_rr:
