Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr it is cold!
« on: January 19, 2012, 09:54:12 am »
Winter finally hit us here, in Minnesota.   We have had a very mild winter so far.  But, the low temps finally hit us.  It was 15 below 0 this morning, with a windchill of -25.  The sun is shining, so it looks really nice outside.  We just have a dusting of snow on the ground, and that is very unusual for winter.  They say the temp will get up to about 1º above 0.  Think I will put off grocery shopping until tomorrow.  Hope it will be a bit warmer by then.

Are you having a very mild winter, or are you getting socked with the snow and rain?

Here in New York it's partly cloudy with 30 and feels like 25. The winds are 5 to 10 mph. The weather is pretty good so far but they say we are going to have snow showers tonight and I am really not looking forward to that since I don't want to wake up tomorrow morning and have to walk to work in that snow. Hope it doesn't snow at all.

It's currently 60 here in NW Florida. It's been going from 70 one day to 30 a couple days later

I'm your neighbor to the east (WI) and totally agree with you.  Been very mild so far (not that I'm complaining).  Those last snow storms (if you can call it that) at least covered up most of my lawn so now when I look outside I see white vs green (just not right seeing green grass in January).

Finally got the deep, bitter cold today.  Time to break out the hot chocolate!   ;D

Heard on the news that we're supposed to get back above freezing in about a week, maybe less.  Also some more possible snow storms.

It sure is getting colder every year.  It's starting to rain outside already, which we need.

Welllllllllllllll, I live in Florida and Florida has absolutely CRAZY winter weather.  We have actually been really cold (I mean really cold for us) late at night and early in the morning.  But no snow or ice and below 0 degrees.  Then in the afternoon you might actually be able to wear shorts.  Its crazy but I was born and raised here and for me I am used to it, I can't imagine living somewhere like Minnesota.  Years ago lived in North Carolina for two years and that was too cold for me.  So stay warm as you can and take care.  8)

I wish the temps would change here. It can somtimes get boring when the weather stays so mild for winter. ALthough I think I really don't know what the real cold feels like!

I am in Southwestern Minnesota!

Hey, me too!!
 Hi jkhanson!  Hi sommap!

I was enjoying our mild weather this winter.

Yes I totally agree with you! And I think that having it start acting like winter now, after all this time, makes it a lot harder to adjust to the cold.
Still not a lot of snow where I live either, sommap.  Hope that isn't waiting to play catch up, too.... :o

How come it won't play?

Here in Tampa Bay we have had a mild winter. Cold is a term that means different things to different people. Like today the high was about 74 with  no wind, so that was warm and comfortable and the sun was shining. Right now at 9 pm It is about 59 degrees with an expected low of 50. To Floridians that is cold, but someone in Minnesota or Canada would be happy to have that as a nighttime temperature. We live in Florida because we want warm. Our winters are usually short, only 2 to 3 weeks of 50 ish ( and sometimes 40 ish) night temperatures with daytime highs in the low to mis 60's. We endure that to have the wamth the rest of the year. Our Christmas day was in the high 70's and the beach resort I was at in Marco Island had a packed beach. As I like to say, Santa was in shorts when he came to Florida this year. ;D

This is a really warm winter so far.  Living in the panhandle of Florida still expects lows in the upper 30's at night and daytime highs near 60.  It's not been happening.  Highs in the upper 60's and lower 70's and lows normally only in the 50's.  If it stays like this without a 3-4 week cold spell before spring, we may be seeing a really HOT summer, and plenty of hurricanes, which we have been fortunate to avoid the last 4 or 5 years.
