Helping retirement people

People who gave their life on a job for thirty or more years. Their money should not be taken away. Losing everything they work for. Why can't we get together and write to the President letting him know this is wrong. Something should be done about this.  When the jobs file bankrupcy this should not be reflex on the retire people. For they written an agreement for what they receive every month. Many are losing their homes. What becoming of respect for the retire people. They  :sad1:made the jobs profit more and more in their thirty or more years. Have they over look this or just don't care.

I'm afraid they just don't care. The world is changing and young people feel they are entitled to everything. I have worked over 40 years. My life is nearly over and I'm glad I don't have to live in the world that is coming. Good luck to you.

I'm 27 and don't think that I am entitled to a thing. I learned at a very young age that if I wanted money for later in life I needed to save it myself and not depend on Social Security or a company 401k for that matter. Additionally, I feel that my generation is the one where companies can give 2 cents about us. There is never room for advancement and there is always someone willing to step in and do your job for less

It is sad....You work all of your life and then, (like in my parents case) when it is time to retire there health had started getting bad and was unable to go anywhere or enjoy anything.  Medication expenses took over and it was do without somethings or take meds.....I don't know what kind of world we live in anymore...

I believe companies do meet you penny for penny like you put in a penny they put in a penny in your retirement account.
However that type of account does not have loads of money in it and you are able to spend it. So its up to those still working to find out what type of account the companies help with.

Stocks are not always good choice but one stock can be I have heard.

I am a single Mom who was able to raise two girls in a home I owned and send them to college through years of working as a nurse, taking extra duty for those years until I accomplished that. I take pride in having done it. That being said, there was not much left for me to invest in my retirement so I am living on SS, a small pension and have a 3hr/day PT job.
I feel for the current generation which may not have the wherewithal to do this due to the state of our economy, high unemployment and lack of opportunity because our financial institutions and corporations have taken that all from you. I know people of my generation who will probably work until they drop because they lost the investments they had made in hopes of retiring comfortably.  There has always been the 1% who haven't a care; the difference now is that they have become evil and want what the 99% should have as well.

If you ask me the government, and the president are crooks. I feel that those elderly people did work hard for there money and should not have it taken away. It is sad but it will only get worse because America is just looking like everyone trying to get rich and not try to help the next person make it to survive

What is really bad is a lot of these retired people did everything right.  They saved, they bought their homes.  They contributed every pay period to retirement accounts, now the economy goes south and companies can just not pay because they lost money.  Retirement accounts are suppose to be set up separate from other company funds, so that it cannot be lost. It should be put into something where even if the stock market is bad you don't lose everything.  Diversify.........and just because you put your money and faith into a company that is going down (who would have thought KODAK could go bankrupt?) you don't have to go with it.

i have to have government assistants for my eye care.   i worked 25 years, paid taxes and social security.    i have to pay 100 a month for the state to help me and on top of that i have to pay 100 a month for my co-pay.    i can hardley afford to buy grocerys and thats why i do survey sites

My husband just retired from being on the job for 33+ years. Making ends meet is a shuffle game. We were the ones that did everything right as we saw it. We had the contributions to the pension, made investments in stocks, had a savings and really planned on retiring comfortably. So much for planning! By the time my husband retired, they took away half his pension; we pay more in medical coverage every year; our investments lost 71%; I lost my job last year so now the savings is gone too. Not quite to the SS draw yet and it probably won't be there anyway when we are ready. Retirees are soon to be a forgotten generation. Nobody gives a *bleep*!

Here's a thought lets all move to Mexico. The cost of living is cheaper there

I find all the situations very upsetting.  I'm no where close to retiring, but I worry about my parents and grandparents.  whom all work, even the GP in their 80s.  They say they just cannot live off their SS.  Which is true, but in their case if they chose to sell land or other assests they would be financially sound.  However, those type of options take away legacy.  It's not that we want their land (think wills), but if you work your whole live gaining assets just to sale them in the end....what's the point?
I do think that government officials are often too far away from the situation to sympathize.  If your retirement is 6 figures how can you understand what people living off $300 a month are experiencing?

I hate to throw a wet blanket on this pity party, but I have been retired for 11 years and LOVE IT! 

No I'm not rich, but the Internet has made retirement dreams come true for me and it's there for anyone who can still prop themselves up to a screen!

I don't have a 401K or Pension, but I did buy some real estate when I could and now it's paying off for me. This bad economy has been a blessing for me, so may people who snubbed MLM as a sucker game are now taking a second look and business is good. Now that I have some momentum, I don't see it going anywhere but UP.

I might be getting older, but I'm not going to crawl into a cocoon and die just yet.

Here I thought this was going to be about how FC is helping some retired folks pick up some extra spending cash. But definitely things are very much a mess in this country and no one has the full answer, we all just have to try to keep afloat as best we can with the resources that we can muster.

Well it sure has helped me and I plan on sticking around for more. In fact I have picked up a lot more than spending cash, it helped me snowball that into some serious cash flow.
