Being a man of logic with little regard for emotional considerations I was left with no other choice based upon my observations, experiences, and reasoning.  It is a good thing for the rest of you that I do believe because logic would dictate 'sinister' pursuits if I were an atheist.  Without religion there is no 'good' and all you are left with is "'beneficial to the individual" and that is a dire scenario for those possessing wisdom enough to see it through.

Your assumption is invalidated by reason; "good" is possible without religion and "bad" is entirely possible with it.  Self-centeredness or selflessness are also possible with or without religion therefore, religion either has less impact than asserted or, religious adherents are hypocrits.

Why would I want to be ethical?  I would be the king of my world and I would certainly strike down all that opposed me or didn't serve my ends.  The greatest tyrants in history would pale beside the pursuits I would undertake.  I would be the alpha wolf and be damned anyone or anything else and survival of the fittest would take on a whole new meaning.

Are you seriously saying you would play a video game and actively elect to be the assistant to a shopkeeper?  Me I would bash the shopkeepers skull in at the first opportunity in such a game and then set traps to slay my customers.  After that there is the city and many adventures beyond.

Seriously as sinister and vile as my description might sound to you this is honestly how I would be without my faith (I didn't always have my faith either and I have done some terrible things indeed that shall not be revealed here).  Now you should seriously consider what I have said for if someone such as me 'saw the light' by no persuasion from anyone or any human laws or sentiments, and yet you live entirely blind to what you claim to be (making foolish and irrational statements like 'ethics' and "internal fortitude" , then what else are you blind to?
