E-Cigs Yay or Nay?
« on: January 05, 2012, 06:06:15 am »
Just curious of how many people use the now quite popular E-Cigs (electronic cigs)? I started using them in September of 2011 and have relapsed back to smoking real cigs after downgrading my nicotene level. I am looking for other peoples experience and advice on how they are successful after decreasing the nicotene levels and any other advice you can give. YES i have researched and spent many hours reading...but its different than hearing from real people who have or are using them successfully not just people trying to make money by getting you to try thier products. Thanks.  :confused1:

Most people I know went back. One got totally off. You keep gettting nicotine so that is why. The body is addicted to the other cancer causing chemicals and that is why people go back.

I have tried them a couple of times.  They do satisfy the craving.  I think they are pretty effective.

I started them with the 24mg nicotine lvl and then went down to 18mg...that is when they stopped working...however it is supposed to be a way to completely quit. How to deal with the cravings that become so strong once you have lowered lvls I guess is what I really am questioning. We make our own e juice so are able to make the levels as strong or as weak as we want and any flavors. But I just cant seem to get back into the groove of it since I dropped to the 18!

i dont understand how you can relieve the bodies craving for nicotine by keep putting nicotine into the body.   youve got to get the traces of nicotine out of there.   it would take a lot of support and a lot of will power to stop :dontknow:

I have started using the E-cig.  Over the past 4 days I have had only 10 real smokes.  It does help with the craving.  I am hoping I can completely quit with the help of these E-cig's.  It not only helps but I really think you must have the mind set to quit smoking  yourself.  I have smoked for almost 40yrs and have decided to try and quit.  Have tried in the past, but failed, so I figured I would give these a try.  It didn't cost me anything because my sister gave me one of hers.  It really didn't help her much, but I wanted to try and see if it would help me.  My worst time is first thing in the morning and after meals.  So far so good, but I have a long way to go.  To anyone out there who is trying to quit, I hope you succeed.

The E Cig has been great in satisfying my craving in places I can't smoke real cigarettes! I'm not trying to quit....yet. My favorite place to use them is in Vegas. You only have a non-smoking table available so you sit down. After a while you get that nicotine craving but don't want to leave the table. Out comes the E Cig and no more nicotine fit! :P

My husband has one. He uses it when he is home or in my vehicle. I quit smoking. I think it has helped him to cut down. But, he is not using it to quit smoking. Just to not smoke as much.  :(

I had a good friend whom smoked and he knew that was a no-no around me.  He really did cut back, and he started to use it when around his kids.  He didn't quit smoking completely, mainly because he likes to smoke.  But it obviously helped with the cravings and such because he could go all day without having a real cig.

I was considering getting the E-cig for my hubby but was not sure how effective they are nor the cost in the long run.  Also, are they more effective than the Nicorette Mini Lozenges?  Because they can get pretty pricey but I just want to help him get started.  Which works best?  :dontknow:

If you really want to quit smoking I highly recommend a book by and English author called Allen Carr's Easyway Method. I am originally from Spain and I can tell you that a lot more people smoke in Europe (Spain and Italy in particular). I have met countless people who have managed to quit after reading the book. I didn't believe the hype, since its quite popular, but once I read it, I quit. Its just that good. Anyhow that's what I would recommend if you are serious about quitting.

Regarding E-Cigs I have tried them myself but never stuck to them much. I know a friend in particular who tried it, liked it, and now does BOTH cigarettes and E-Cigs. But I hear it does help some people. Anyhow good luck.

Does the E Cig work? Depends on the purpose of your buying it. As a smoking alternative, I think it works marvelously! There are times and places that you cannot smoke a regular cigarette but still need to take care of that nicotine craving - a life saver! As a smoking cessation tool I believe it can be an aid to get you started on your way. One of the biggest hurdles in quitting smoking is overcoming the oral fixation and the E Cig can help in that department. Just like on a diet, sometimes you temporarily fall off the band wagon; picking up an E Cig would get you through that time. The E Cig does have solutions to some concerns - what is your purpose in trying one?

I have never smoked but they seem less harmful than regular cigs.

I had a similar situation when I did the 18 to 12 drop. What I decided was I was too busy focusing on the mg level instead of just appreciating the fact that I was away from tar, smoke, and all the cigarette additives. I went back up to 18 and am planning to stay there for a while. It's exciting to be free  from analogs but I tend to get a little to competitive with myself.

Also something I  noticed was when I did the drop myself, I stopped inhaling them the "right" way - that is the long hold. I went back to inhaling them like regular cigarettes, which is going to cut down on the nicotine level even more.
