There calendar ended on this date, is our world going to end because ours ends dec. 31. Goodness these people worshiped sun gods, they thought the sun was a god. Yeah, I put alot of stake into that. Jesus said He didn't know the day or time, He will return like a thief in the night. No the world is probably not going to end in 2012. People are so stupid to believe in this hypocracy, they are using this to sell stuff. Just like they tear peoples lives apart in tabloids to make money. HELLO!!

Ummmm hate to be a stickler but you say people are using this to make money and that makes them hypocrites? Nothing, NOTHING has been used to make money more than Jesus.

Good thing we have the "castle laws" in several states regarding 'thieves in the night'.
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

I completely agree. Religion has been used to make so much money on people who put their entire lives based on it. I do not believe the Mayan had the ability to predict the exact time our world "ends", but I do think our world is changing all around us.

what I think that will happen on 12/21/12 is nothing big.  people are running scared thinking it is the end, i think it will be a new beginning.  If something bad happens is because we will it to be, Our planet is extends of us, we as a people feel her and she feels all of us as one.  I think nothing will happen if anything happens i hope we become together without a disaster.  I hope the day we stop killing each other.  I hope for the day we accept someone of race, religion, sex, sex orientation.   But i hope i find my soul mate by that day or sooner that will be the most important gift i can get.

NO, they had to end their calendar sometime and I know what you are going say because I saw all the documentaries too. What I am saying, they had to end their calendar sometime. They lived how long ago? And the other thing is, I cannot believe how Americans take this, seriously. I know how most people feel about our neighbor to the south. Why in the world would they believe anything their ancestors had to say. It sounds like a trend if you ask me. DAH!  :notworthy:

I don't think the world is going to end per se. There might be some form of live changing event that might change the way we humans run our daily lives whether it be severe changes in whether or some other bad thing, but that can happen at any point in time, not necessarily on 12/21/12.

Lakathi I kind stopped believing in the end of the world after Y2K. When a bunch of morons quit their jobs, sold their homes & pack up to go live in the woods waiting for Y2k to strike! Are they kicking their own asses after nothing happen; probably. The notion that the world ends in Dec 2012 because of the Mayan calender ending; there can be explained several ways. Maybe they never got to continue the calender because they may be dealing with more important issues, like the white tainted man invading their culture, their religion their way of life. Whole tribes were wiped out due to small pox, STDS a type of early biological war fare that the white man didn't even know they had. The Indians didn't have a chance, b/c they didn't have any form of immunity to the disease! Kind of had to worry about the next calendar year when you're whole tribe is dropping dead left & right around you. If the world will end; it will be not b/c of some pissed off deity that the humans worship....it will end at the hands of man & the human race. From the beginning of the start of using resources that will kill the earth we set the ticking time bomb that is quickly getting ready to explode. Notice the warm winters in the north where usually, it should be cold & snowing, & the south, we had several days of freezing weather which is not normal for the south. Should the earth shift axes & go racing into the sun due to us abusing the earth, we have no one to blame but ourselves. When it happens, I'll be singing it's the end of the world as we know it, it's the end of the world as we know it & I feel fine.... I hope it's quick!

You can't trust ancient cultures with supernatural/futuristic pseudoscientific claims. How could they have predicted the end of the world when they couldn't even see the Spanish crossing the Atlantic (aka the end of their world)? People never think about that aspect. All in all it's just a bunch of new-age crap that people try to cash in on.

I mostly agree however, "The Mayans and Aztecs have a legend of learning great things from a bearded "white man" who came to them sometime after 500 B.C.E. The Aztecs named him Quetzalcoatl, which means "Plumed Serpent." There is some speculation that Quetzalcoatl could have come from Egypt, and that the "Plumed Serpent" represented the cobra with its hood expanded. Mayan legend says that the Yucatan was originally inhabited by "people of the serpent," and their leader's name was "Serpent of the East." Mayans claimed that they got their writing from the Tula, and that their leaders sailed over the sea to the East to learn their wisdom."
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

Then his birthday occurs on the day the Mayans and Olmec marked as their summer solstice, (which is winter solstice in the northern hemisphere).  The difference between the longest day or the year and the longest night may or may not be significant to the Mayna long-count calendar and is probably insignifcant to your son.

If the Mayans could predict the future... Wouldn't there still be Mayans?
