I know what you mean... After throwing away your shopping lists, you will decide to toss your Kindle (cuz you can read books from your phone), 86 your MP3 player, junk your camera (at least the camera for everyday use), chuck your GPS (hmm, maybe even defenestrate it out the car window...) etc. I switched to a smart phone last year and now I know why a bunch of my friends are addicted to theirs. After going on a cross-country road trip with some friends, I saw all of the benefits of a smart phone aside from just the "phone" part, so after that I was eager to get my own.

I'm looking into getting one.

Anyone know if GPS is a high bandwidth operation or if it's something that will tend to use less data?

I'd be looking to do this on an Android phone.

I realize that smart phones are convenient, but I can't bring myself to spend all that extra money per month for convenience. With my current plan, I am eligible to upgrade to a smart phone,  but then it would cost me at least an extra 40.00 a month, maybe more. And for some reason, you can't get an unlimited data plan with a smart phone, at least not from AT&T or Verizon.

Exactly. Sprint is the only service (besides MetroPCS) that offers unlimited.

I have a 200 mb data plan and I maybe use 50 a month because I'm usually somewhere with a wireless connection. The only people that i know that actually need unlimited data is those that don't have internet at home

I actually have never used fusioncash off of a computer, I've made my first cashout purely off my android phone. They are great!! I couldn't go back to a regular phone I would loose my mind!! :BangHead:

I hear you! I didn't think i would like a Smart Phone. I got my husband's hand me down when he upgraded. I love it. I can get Wii- Fi at work, home, resturants, and lots of other places. This cuts down on me using my data package. It really is a great thing to have.

I have been thinking about getting one too. I thought I might try one of the offers, or check out those bid type sites etc. Right now I have been wondering about monthly costs, as well as battery life. I understand on some (maybe all), once the battery quits holding a charge you just can't replace the battery, you have to send the whole phone in?  Also, I guess some apps are free, others cost, so I need to decide just what apps I would really want. Cost for me is most important when you don't have a steady income.  Any thoughts out there. Any problems that would be nice to know about when choosing a particular phone? Is the phone strictly from the net?
Anyway, It will be after the 1st of the year. Happy New Year everyone

I recently down graded from my smart Blackberry phone to a Pantech.  Still holds the calendars and lists, even has the internet if I wished to pay for it.  But I couldn't justify the money fees....Sprint isn't an option in the country.  The extras are nice, I totally agree, but the cost really does add up in just a year.  More if you are on a family plan (not all phones in the car need the internet).  A GPS is usually a one time fee, and a great gift to recieve.  A smart phone is a gift that just keeps costing.

I love my iphone.  I use it a lot.  But, I'm not giving up my Kindle for it, the print is too small and you can't see enough on a page to suit me.  Maybe if my eyes were better it wouldn't bother me.  All of the other stuff I've downloaded on it is great.  There must be a bazillion free apps available on it.  One of my favorites is Gas Buddy.  If I'm traveling and need gas the gps knows where I am and shows me all the gas stations in that area.

i'm right there with you. i can't stand the thought of
paying an extra $25-40 a month for the data package
required for a smart phone. i'm richer just by staying
in the stone age...hahah.

Congrats on the new smartphone. They are nifty. I got excited when I got my first one, but nowadays I sometimes loathe them as I have one primarily for work purposes and sometimes have to be on call. I see people constantly on them when I take public transportation, but I'm beginning to appreciate moreso a good quick nap instead of tinkering with apps on the phone.
