That applys to everything I think.  Every time I get something new I try to get rid of something to keep the clutter down.

The best tip to reduce your clutter is to move! I am a hoarder at heart, but with every move to a new place I threw out those things that I just couldn't live without before. At the moment I have not had the chance to collect stuff - too new in the country.

Thanks for the good idea. I need to apply that to my magazines!

I can't stand clutter, and unless you live alone, most people don't see how much of a burden it is to themselves and their close ones. Materialistic items are just that, material. If you were to lose these items in a fire, would you end your life? If not, then the items aren't worth as much to you as you think they are.

Today I went threw my closet and I'm donating 40 articles of clothing plus some purses and shoes tomorrow afternoon...normally I won't part with my clothing but I knew it was time --- some of the stuff I found was so dingy -- nothing I would want to be seen in so why keep?

I do the same things a few times a year.

It sounds like to me, maybe you should unsubscribe from the newspaper and save some money. Watch the news on tv or read someone elses newspaper it's cheaper and less clutter.

I don't get newspapers, and I save all my magazines because I do go back and read back issues. What I have a problem with is mail. I get a ton of it, and I always set it aside to sort later, with the result that every piece of furniture in my bedroom ends up being covered with piles of mail. I've never actually been late with any bills, but I've come pretty close, and I sometimes let magazine subscriptions run out because I forgot to mail in the renewal form. My New years resolution is to get organized and take care of each day's mail as I get it.

I can't remember his name, Peter something, but there's a British organizing expert who's been on Oprah and Nate.  He says to sort the mail when you first walk in with it.  Set up a few baskets or trays and sort your mail into them right away.  You could have one for bills, one for correspondence you must read and/or answer and one to recycle the junk mail.

I agree, if you haven't used something in a while most likely you'll never use it. Just throw it away!!

I heard someone say "if it isn't beautiful or useful, you don't need it."
"If you don't need it, love it, or use it, LOSE IT!"

All my mail that comes in goes in two piles - bills and junk mail. The bills get paid, the junk mail get trashed and anything with personal information get shredded on the weekend.
