Help me with my bland pie crust
« on: December 20, 2011, 11:59:03 am »
the title says it all -- I made a really yumy recipe but the crust was so bland -- all it called for was flour, baking soda, egg, and butter...any ideas?  It's a dish with meats and cheese.

My favorite is below.
No roll Pie Crust

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup canola oil
2 tablespoons milk
Directions
1.In a 9 inch pie plate, sift flour, sugar and salt. make a well in the center and pour in oil and milk. Mix with a fork, then press into the bottom and sides of pie plate.
2.To bake: Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C.) Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until golden brown.

Buy a premade crust.  Tastes great every time.

I actually wanted a pre made pie crust but all they had at Walmart was like a graham cracker kind.  If you had a pre made crust wouldn't you have to adjust the temperature/time to bake...seems like the crust would get burnt.

Sometimes the crust doesn't get done so I sometimes bake the crust by itself until it's a little brown just for a few minutes then I will add the filling and continue baking the pie.

even if you use the premade pie crust from the refrigerated isle, you can always dust it with cinnamon and sugar.. adds more flavor..      as for the crust with the meats, have you tried sprinkling with your favorite spice, or lightly butter and sprinkle with all spice..
