Real or Fake Christmas tree?

We do both. We have a fake one for family gifts and another small fake one int he front window. On Christmas eve I go to Lowe's just before closing and get a real tree for less than $10. I then decorate it with the wife and put the Santa gifts under that. The kids think Santa brought the tree and gifts.

That's a neat idea! We usually just use a fake one due too the fact we are often out of town for christmas or soon after and don't have the time for a real one.

Usually I have a fake tree, but this is my first Christmas with my husband and we wanted to get a real one.
I love how thick and full the tree looks compared to most fake ones, and I love how great it smells!

Who knows, next year we might shell out the big bucks for a good quality fake one though.
I think the white ones look super pretty.

 Real!!! Its the only way to go. Its just not christmas without the smell of fresh pine in the house.

I like this idea.  My significant other is from Austria.  There, it's traditional for Santa to bring the tree, as well as the gifts!  So there is no tree set up ahead of time....the kids get up on Christmas morning to find a fresh, decorated tree with gifts underneath.  How cool is that?  My kids are grown up now, so it's a little late to try to start that tradition here, but maybe when we have grandkids.

Oh -- fresh or fake?  There are merits to both.  I used to think it was "greener" to have a fake tree and not cut down a fresh one every year.  Since then I've learned that the fake trees are much more detrimental to our environment, and fresh trees are grown for the market using sustainable methods.  Food for thought.

Either way, the smell of fresh spruce in the house is a must-have at Christmas!  Get out the pine-scented candles or lamp oil.  Combined with the smell of cookies baking, and an old holiday record on the stereo, that spells Christmas to me.

I agree with you on this one!  And.... we have a cat, and he likes to climb the tree.  Our tree used to sit on a tile floor, and even with a tree skirt, he'd knock the ornaments off and we'd find them smashed on the floor the next day.  That happened a few too many times with heirlooms!  We finally moved the tree to a new spot, and had to tie a rope around it and mount it to a hook on the wall to keep it from falling over when he'd try to climb in it.  The good news:  The cat is much older and no longer tries to climb the tree!  However, when we do have a fresh tree, he still likes to drink the water from the tree stand.  Probably not too good for him..... LOL

I pefer fake trees.  Real trees require too much work plus the needles get all over the floor.

We usually use fake trees. I made one this year out of coat hangers and garland. It's cute and compact (we don't have that much room). Maybe next year we might get a real one.

Save a tree.  Artificial Christmas tree is the green way to go.

I would like a real christmas tree, but I don't favor the mess I have to clean up after the holidays. So every few years I use an artificial tree. I have never bought a real tree, because I cannot put it on one of my garage hangers and do not favor killing a tree and using it for decoration. If I had more space and could plant the tree, I would use a real tree for Christmas. I don't normally use a tree, because I go to my cousin's house to celebrate Christmas.

Artificial for US! We used to do the Real tree's but, they just got too expensive. We still once and awhile get a Real Tree, maybe every 6-8 years just to smell the pine. The problem is getting it home and getting rid of it.

the real trees work so much better for starting a fire to burn all the trash you need to get rid of

i prefer fake christmas trees as well but i do miss the smell of a real tree in the house during christmas time
