Skin Bleaching-Why?

Actually, I am a colored woman. My dad is Caucasian and my mom is African American. I took more on my mom side so I do consider myself as a dark skinned colored woman. And no I am not a racist. Over the year that is how I am describe and now I used to it. Overall, I don't consider it a racist term. It's a fact.
Skin bleaching is also called 'skin whitening' and it involves a variety of cosmetic methods used to whiten the skin.

I stand corrected..sort of...because where I am from is someone calls an African American or Black person "colored"  It is definitely a racist remark.
But you are right skin bleaching is horrible

Actually using the term 'colored' amount ourselves (African-American) is fine. However, individuals who are not mixed may use the term with a certain attitude and then it could be taken as a racial term. Basically, even though it can be used - the tone and the way it is said matters. If I was not a woman of color, after reviwing my first comment, it did sound a bit racist. Sticky subject, but I am okay with it.

I do agree that skin bleaching is bad. In the long run it probably even has a negative effect on the skin because it is not natural.

Where I am from it is a racist insult to be called "Colored".  It's kinda like calling a black man "Boy."  However, it's very interesting to learn that some people, depending on where they live or how they came up are ok with it.  Who  knew 

Obviously the women on The Tyra show who are bleaching themselves are the extreme and have issues!  I would be worried about getting some sort of cancer from that.
