Without reading the blog! Why would you want to boycott sports?

After reading your post, it definitely sounds like your attitude toward sports has been colored by your negative experience at a single location.  I hope when your feelings settle down, you'll realize that "sport" in general is a lot bigger than the experience you encountered.  Your rant was targeted more toward a popular professional sport - what about supporting school or non-pro sports (like the Olympic athletes)?

Sports has many benefits - particularly with children.  It keeps them out of gangs, promotes a healthy lifestyle, teaches team work, helps develop skills and goal achievement that can be used in other areas of life, etc.  It also provides a venue for older children to mentor younger ones, and adults to pass on a passion to a younger generation.  Most of these sport clubs require communities to help support them.  So by taking your advice to boycott all sports - that would include all of these beneficial programs.

I've been on sports and feel a lot of benefits - I did soccer, track & field, volleyball, ballroom dance, and currently figure skating.  I've learned a lot of skills that I apply in my everyday and work life, not to mention I feel incredibly fit.

I don't disagree with your opinion that many professional athletes - particularly in the popular, televised sports - are probably way overpaid, and several of those athletes in the headlines are letting the fame go to their heads.  But like you said, in the professional arena, it's also a business, and like other businesses, there have to be budget decisions to keep the business solvent.  That's just part of reality that everyone needs to learn how to navigate to their advantage.  Maybe you can use this experience to help you make a decision on your next employment that will be more toward your advantage.

I can boycott every sport except football because football hasn't let me down.  This latest National Basketball Association fiasco renews my vow to never watch baseball and basketball.  It is ridiculous that these overpayed owners and players still quibble about more money.  Billion dollar babies with no concern for anyone but themselves.  Rarely do you hear about them giving to a charity and they are willing to let their fan base down until they realize that they might not get paid.  Stop watching them and commercial endorsements will dwindle and maybe these idiots will care more about their sport and their fans.
