I didn't know that, technicallly, there was a difference.  I thought the names were interchangeable.

Some people call it "dressing", while others call it "stuffing".  Which do you prefer?  I guess I say it both ways, but "stuffing" is used most often.

Stuffing is when it's stuffed inside the bird before cooking and dressing is when it's cooked separately, outside the bird.  Most people and some packaged food companies use the two terms interchangeably, but that's incorrect.

I usually bake a turkey for Christmas and do it the old fashioned way, from scratch.  A week before I bake two loaves of bread and one pan of cornbread, break them into pieces and toss them in this huge bowl I have. I give the bread a toss every day and it dries out perfectly.  On Christmas day I add mushrooms, apples, an onion, broth and lots of seasoning then stuff my bird and baste it by hand.  The house smells great and dinner melts in your mouth.  Yum.  ;D

You beat me to explaining the difference! Sort of like "BBQ"... Technically something is only a BBQ if the meat was smoked first and the sauce was made from the smoked meat. However a lot of people will put a steak on the grill, smother it with some sauce made without any of the meat drippings, and call it a BBQ steak. Or even if the sauce was made from some roasted meat, it is still not technically a BBQ, but rather a glaze; however so many people use the terms interchangeably.

I like dressing made with sour-dough bread. By best-friend lived in San Fran. for many years and still has a brother that lives out there, so every year about this time she orders some true sour dough bread to be delivered for her dressing.

I usually don't eat dressing/stuffing unless it is home made.  That box stuff they sell it horrible.  We usually make the dressing the day before so it can absorb and the herbs and flavor, before baking.  We don't stuff the bird.

We eat dressing.  Stuffing in something you fix on top of the stove, but dressing you cook the cornbread then bake in the oven.  Dressing and gravy..hum...can't wait.

I call it stuffing, and yes we eat it at my house and love it!

Dressing! Cornbread dressing is the best, in my opinion.  Never liked the breadcrumb stuffing, too dry.

Stuffing comes in a box and you add water to it and toss lightly!  ??? Dressing is dried bread or cornbread with some sort of meat , fruit , onion, celery and seasonings mixed with some sort of broth and then baked.

I suppose it depends on how fancy the meal is.

I called stuffing, and I will make it either way, I like mine half and half, meaning I usually buy the box but add my own seasonings to it.  I add ground beef or chicken, onions, celery, cilantro, raisins, sometimes apple, butter, broth instead of water and a tat of tomato sauce mix the bread (cornbread is the best (if I have the box then I add the box seasoning and use the box bread and part of the bread) and bake it.

Most of the times for our dinners we split the cooking by the families, and like this year my sister is baking the turkey but everybody likes my stuffing/dressing better so I am make it separate from the Turkey.
