They post ads on your blogs and you get paid when people click on those ads. I just started so I'm not fully sure.

I also use it on my altered art magic blog.

Google adsense provides advertising on Google.  My work uses Google adsense.  I work at an Art Center.  We advertise our upcoming classes and events on Google adsense.  Google adsense is terrific.

It helps drive more traffice to your blog/site and makes it more relevant search wise.

You don't need a website to join, just a Google account. But it helps to have a website to make money off of it. Basically it keeps a track of people's searches that come to a website and displays something they will like on the AdSense bar, where ever you place it on your page. If they click a link on it, you make money. So the point is to drive more traffic to your site through SEO and other factors and more clicks on AdSense = more money.

I just put the google adsense ads on my blog and I guess they pay me when people click on the links.
