I agree with you. It's up to you what your children watch. My granddaughter is 10 and has watched tv since the day she was born. She is advanced in everyway. She is 10 going on 40.And naturally knows everything.Don't they all.

I have 4 children and have let all of them watch TV.  I just monitor what they are watching.  I think shows like sponge bob, or ones with no educational value are not good for them, however my children have learned from watching sesame street and Dora.

I was just reading online that the AAP has now ruled that children under the age of 2 who watch ANY tv at all are going to lack the language skills needed to function in society.

That is NOT what the A.A.P. stated. The article, in it's entirety, is in the November issue we just received. What is DOES say is this, note the difference, please:
Quote
Young children with heavy media use are at risk for delays in language development once they start school, but more research is needed as to the reasons.

It doesn't say "ANY tv at all". I get upset when people don't take the time to actually read and then jump to unfounded conclusions. :angry7:

I don't feel like there's really anything wrong with letting a child watch television. Just be mindful of what they are watching (or hearing) and how long they are watching each time. My nephew loved watching tv as a baby and I think he enjoys it even more now. We always had children's programming for him to watch and he didn't sit there for long periods of time. We also interacted with him during that time as well as away from tv time. Kids minds need to be stimulated at every age and tv can also do this.
