She can afford a second refrigerator just for keeping a dog frozen but she can't afford to cremate it? She should just take the body to a safe area and burn it on a pile of sticks and then collect the ashes. better yet just give it a burial if the dog meant so much to her.

Not to mention the extra cost of electricity to run an extra freezer.  People make all kinds of excuses for doing or not doing things.  How long has she had them in the freezer?  If she was so adamant about having the dogs cremated she would have found a way by now.  She could get a second job she could mow some lawns, babysit, pet sit, clean neighbors houses.  If she is really desperate all she needs to do is do it her self on her own grill.  I don't mean to sound morbid or mean but she could have done it a long time ago if she really wanted to.  When there's a will there's a way.  Sounds like she is just being lazy.

Oh I can't believe that your two responses made me laugh so hard.  I am such a huge animal lover.  No one loves their pets more than me.  After having several cremated and in containers in the house I decided to bury the ashes outside.  I am not sure I will have anymore pets cremated.  To tell you the truth it didn't make me feel any better to have the ashes around and it is expensive, but I thought the same thing about the freezer expense.  I think keeping frozen pets is creepy.  Reminds me of an episode I saw of people who have strange addictions.  This one girl loves to perform taxidermy and kept all kinds of frozen animals in her freezer with her food!

:o YIKES!  Totally creepy!  But then again,, maybe she really loved those pets.  I just cant see having a dead being living with me. Cremations are not as exoensive as people think.  My friend had a service go to his home, pick up the dog, cremate and bring it back for around $300.

Yeah, this creeps me out. Freeze her pets? Just bury them in the back yard and plant a rose bush on top of the grave. A much nicer remembrance than a pet popsicle to remind you. What happens if the power goes out for an extended length of time? I don't think I would like to burn them myself because of the smell. The neighbors would think we were having a BBQ and might come over for leftovers. Now how would you explain that?

I understand the attachment to pets and not wanting to let them go, but to freeze them is downright strange.

That is alot creepy!! Who in their right mind would have their dogs in a freezer?? I think you better rethink this friendship!! I agree with the other writer "why wouldn't she just send them to a vet for mass cremation". I did that with my last pet and they only charged me $50, they wait until they get a few animals and do a combined cremation, they just don't give you the ashes. I think it is a little unsanitary to have your pets, even if they are frozen, in your house!!!

lol! i just had to comment on this one! i personally have not frozen a pet, altho i have frozen various critters for research purposes! when i was a kid my mom froze our cat through the winter so we could bury it in the spring after the ground defrosted. morbid topic i suppose, but really, why is it so disturbing to some people? i mean, seal it up and its fine. by the way... freezing bugs doesnt work so well, they come back to life, and freezing reptiles is not like freezing mammals... reptiles get all mushy and useless.

Great idea, and a wonderful example of the crazy things some people will do.  Why don't we all deep freeze our grandparents for a few years until we can be absolutely sure about the final disposition of their remains?

I have never considered freezing a pet, but I guess it seems like a legit reason to freeze them. It's not something I would do at all.  :dontknow:

i've honestly never heard of anyone doing that
in my entire life. some people take the pet thing
to an extreme... to an odd extreme.

a burial would make more sense to me, and like
someone else said, planting something to honor the
pet over the grave sounds so much nicer.

but... she apparently doesn't agree and well, it's
her freezer and her dead pets, i suppose!  :P
[ we all have a place in history. mine is in the clouds. ]

OK....I am a pet lover and have had to 'put down' 2 of my beloved babies. I would never freeze them for 'later' cremation. Not only is that just creepy, it may be breaking some health violations. I just cannot imagine someone not being able to let go to this extent.
This has GOT to be lengthing the grieving process for an unbearable amount of time.

That is one of the strangest things I've heard in recent memory.  I don't see a problem with making a little fire outside and cremating the animal in this way(it worked for Vader).  Then again the pet popsicle isn't hurting anyone so whatever floats their boat.
