Question about the gold pad lock on some of the post......
« on: September 19, 2011, 09:13:44 pm »
I was wondering if there's a lock on the post why can we still click on it & read it. Isn't the lock suppose to stop members from opening it? :dontknow:

No, it means you can't reply to it. Either it was locked by an admin for some violation, or the person who originally posted the thread locked it because they don't want any new replies.

Threads are locked by an administrator, or by an automatic script which locks all threads that have no responses for about 9 months.  The automatic one is responsible for the vast majority of locked posts you may encounter.

We do this because old posts sometimes reference out-of-date policies or information and can be confusing when they resurface years later.  I had to check just now to be sure but the forum is over 4 years old now and with over 400,000 posts, so it requires some pruning from time to time.

Oh that's really interesting, and helpful too. Thanks!
