My Referral Can't Sign Up... Help?
« on: September 20, 2007, 11:40:07 am »
My referral is unable to sign up for the site for some reason...  She filled out her signup form and typed in the security word and clicked OK, but it popped up a window saying that she was connected by a proxy, and sent her back to the registration page.  The security code area was highlighted in red like she typed it in wrong, and they wanted her to do it again, but everytime she tries to do it, she gets the same results.  I set up her DSL two nights ago, and it's just a basic laptop to a security enabled wireless router setup, I didn't think there would be any problem at all with a proxy.  I set her up for the security enabled setup because she lives in an apartment complex and I didn't want others to be mooching off of her internet.

Any suggestions as to how we can overcome this?  She tried sending in a support ticket, but you have to have a security code for that too, and it did the same thing as the registration page...   Anyone?

Sounds like a cookie/cache issue with the security image.  The proxy warning is just that -- a warning.  It doesn't prevent you from signing up.

Can you have her clear her cookies and cache and/or try a different browser?

Ok, I will try that.  It's a new laptop that she bought three days ago, and I tried to set it up for her to be able to do sites like this and I enabled cookies, but I will try what you suggested.  I will clear her cookies, and go from there.  She's just using the IE7, just like I am...  If it doesn't work tomorrow, then I might have her try to use FireFox or something.  Thanks

I just got back from her house and her IE settings are at the lowest security setting, and I made sure to click on accept all third party cookies as well as first party cookie...  She's set up exactly like I am here, so I can't figure out why she still can't sign up.  It's doing the same thing as it was yesterday, puting her at the first registration page with the security code in red.  Other sites are telling us that her computer needs to be set up for cookies as well, so I don't know what the issue is.  I'm not new to computers in the least, but this one has me stumped...   :dontknow:

Would I get a quicker response through a support ticket or just waiting for a reply on here?

lol...   I know, it really sucks because I had a feeling she was going to be a good, reliable referral too!  Not like most of the other referrals I have on other sites that just sign up, then don't work on it.  I'm stumped... I have no idea.

if she has a security center like mcafee, temporarily disable firewall, can be set to turn back on in 30-60mins or at computer restart. and try to sign up again... my subscription to mcaffe actually ran out and since then, more of my offers credit.

Is she on a LAN line or wireless? Router or Not? You can have some issues with how the sites register her in some cases. The more info you have the better, just tell us everything you know and we should be able to figure it out. Hopefully.  :dontknow:

She is wireless to a wireless router that I set up to be secure since she's in an apartment complex, I don't want other people hacking into it.  Her's is the only computer to use that router, there's no LAN setup at all.

I'm going over there tonight, I will try disabling her Norton Antivirus and see if that helps during signup.  It's just weird that I set both of our computers up to the same settings, and her's won't work, but mine works great...  maybe it does have something to do with Norton, even though I have the same program, maybe her's got tweaked a little.   :dontknow:

Hello, I am the referral in question and we got it figured out tonight!  WOOT!

It was an option in my Webroot Antivirus program that was disabling cookies from being saved.  I'm so excited!
