what are some things for kids with asthma besides medicine

Breathing treatments which often include medications, but even running a humidifier and vaporizer.  Asthma can be very serious, so medicine may certainly be required to dialate the broncheo rubes.  My child has severe allergies and the allergist said he was bordeline asthmatic.  His allergies are some better but he still suffers.  I had him o weekly shots for two years and finally took him off because I did not see any improvement, he cried every time it was time to go and my insurance would not pay for them.  Medicaid pays about$3 per shot yet because I had no insurance and could not qualify for medicaid, they charged me $30 a week.

Lately, I've noticed my 11 yo boy was short of breath long after he was running. I've been thinking about taking him in to get checked for asthma. What are the appointments and tests like? Do I need to block off an entire day for the appointments?
