Legionnaires disease
« on: August 30, 2011, 04:49:07 pm »
Holy crap, I'm freaking out because someone in my job has contracted this disease. It's not passed from person to person. It's an airborne disease and now the top officials in our building have sent to get our cooling tower tested to see if it's positive for Legionnaires disease. Oh how I pray that test comes out negative. It's freaking scary for someone to get that. It can eventually lead to lung failure causing death. Now they have to wait 2 weeks to get the results back. That's a long time to wait. I really don't want to walk into that building until they get the results. Uuuggh! I feel like they don't care about us and want us to work in there regardless. By that time, more people can get sick if in fact our building was the source of my co-workers sickness. If it wasn't that I really need a job and the money I would quit but I guess I have to stick through it. So they say, they have already contacted our local and state health department to notify them of the issue. I hope the state can make them shut the building down at least until this nightmare is over. There are too many lives at stake in this place. Well that's my story of the day. I'm hoping for the best for our building and also hoping that my co-worker recovers soon.

Oh, wow, I haven't heard anything about legionnaires disease in a long time.  I pray for eveyone's health at your work facility.  It would be hard to go to work there knowing it could be causing illness.  Just the uncertainty of the cause would be enough to keep you on edge!
Have a wonderful day!

A friend that I worked with got this a cpl years ago, and he too got it from an air conditioner, it was one in his house though, so I don't see any reason to assume it was in your workplace. He fell asleep by his air conditioner, and got crazy sick, and was in the hospital for 3 weeks.

If you like garlic - I'd suggest adding some extra fresh garlic to your food - as it's naturally both an antibacterial and antiviral agent.  Would help you boost your immune system in case it is in your building.  If your co-worker is the only case, statistically it's probably not the building, but he caught it elsewhere.  But a little prevention of your own wouldn't hurt.  Eat well and get plenty of sleep to keep your body strong.  And try not to stress out over this, as stress will rob you of your sleep and weaken your immune system.

Here's hoping you get the "all clear" result from the inspection soon!
