I am on the coast in northeastern South Carolina and school is letting out early tomorrow because we are expecting high winds.  I have lived in this area most of my life and I can tell you that Cape Hatteras and Care Fear always seem to be right in the path of every hurricane.  I know it sticks out there on the edge but those people need to get a clue.  They always get hit.

Hmm, I must not keep up with the news much.  I had no idea there was a hurricane. lol. Where I am in Cali. there are no "real" natural disasters, at least not consistent or predictable ones.  Some fires, tiny earthquakes, but nothing too bad where I'm at.

Bought a large 60 quart cooler tonight to supplement a smaller cooler I already have and stocked up on food, water, and batteries for the flashlights.  I live in Chesapeake, VA which is 10 miles from NC and 20 miles from the ocean.  Definitely concerned about what damage will occur on Saturday.  Based on prior experience with Tropical Storm winds in this area it is highly likely much of this area will be without power anywhere from a day to over a week.  I hear kids and teenagers talking about how cool it will be when Irene comes and I feel a growing compulsion to smack them in their head for being stupid. ::)

Well, I don't remember a Hurricane like this coming to NYC. But I am ready for it. I am not scared, but I just hope I do not loose electric service or TV service or internet service for that matter.

I am not scared.   I can feel the energy in the air.   I wonder where Irene will wander.   Will she go shopping in Manhattan or do high society in the Hampdens or surfing on the Cape?   Or go inland and miss the beach.   When she leaves, we will have to sing IRENE GOODNIGHT, IRENE GOODNIGHT, GOODNIGHT IRENE, GOODNIGHT IRENE, I'LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS.

Be safe!

I was watching the Today show this morning and they made some great sugestions.  They mentioned that sometimes the water supply could be cut off, so fill up your bath tub with water.  This water should be used to fill your toliet tank so you can still flush.  They also said if you can text from your phone that you will be able to get through if the cell towers are overloaded.

I am about as ready as I am going to be.I have filled the remaining space in my freezer with containers of water. We have several coolers. Went to the grocery store this morning. We should be ok. I am concerned about my parents. I think they are not prepared. My son lives near the Jersey Shore and is being evacuted and will stay in a hotel(inland) to ride out the storm.
At least I know he is safe.
