What is the one thing that shocks most people when you tell them?

I'm 18 and I got married this past summer.  A few people from my school did.  I come from a small town, so I did not realize that this did not happen as often as I thought it did. When I tell people I'm married, they tend to scream "YOU'RE MARRIED!" and "WHAT! WHY!?" Then remain in a state of shock for awhile.  So, what do you tell people that shocks them?

People are shocked when I tell them my age. Many think I look three years older not just by my looks, but my whole demeanor. They say I'm more mature for my actual age.

I have a large Irish Wolfhound....who is very social and friendly and as gentle as they come....but it's hilarious to see the reaction of people walking little dogs when I say "Look, Riley....a snack"  as they approach....People rush to pick up their little dogs and dart the other way....

We get asked a lot of questions when we are out and about...like "what do you feed a dog that big?"  (answers we give frequently --  "neighbors that tick us off"...."annoying children"..."pets of neighbors we don't like"... "door to door salesmen"..)

But I think the best reaction ever was when a salesman came knocking at the door...Riley peered at him through the window...and with some hesitation in his voice, the young man asked if he was dangerous...I replied "The only time he has really hurt anyone is a guy that tried to break in our house, and a door to door salesman that ended up with 17 stitches"...the guy turned and ran.  LOL

I look younger than I am & people get a shock when I show them my drivers license. I'm always carded when I go to adult places. One time in the the mall, I was lost in thought and a lady w/the security guard came up to me. The lady speaking to me with a baby voice ask, are you lost little girl. You should have seen the shock in her eyes when I looked strenght  into her eyes & said, lady how old do you think I am?

Another thing that tend to shock people is for example my parents & most friends are from a different country. Their friends alway think that us kids don't speak the language that we're totally americanized. One time, they were jabbing among themselves & I caught a few sentences that was something mean against my parents. So, I went up to them & they quickly switch to english. It was classic, the look on their faces when I started  telling them off in their native language.

The one thing that shocks people when I tell them is my age because they think I look sixteen when actually I am 30. They can't believe I am that age because I look so young.

When I tell people how old I am, I guess I don't look as old as I really am.  I am 57 years old but most people say I look 47.  I love it!

To piggy back on willow80834, most people are shocked when I tell them I don't celebrate christmas.  I'm Jewish.  The best reactions was when I used to work retail during the holidays.  Starting after thanksgiving people would say to me merry christmas.  My response was always happy hanukkha.  One person got mad at me for saying that to them.  They said that I was rude for saying that to them since they were christian.  I politly said to the person, how do you think people feel that are not christian when you say merry christmas?

The most common for me in the past, was when someone would find out my age (because they always thought I was either older or younger than my actual age), that I had an older brother, and when my sister and I were in the same school they'd be shocked to find out her & I were related.

People are shocked when I tell them I am in an interracial marriage.  I am told I dont look the type,  whatever that is when I ask them what they mean they never tell me.
