E-mail Scam
« on: August 18, 2011, 10:41:30 am »
I received the most pitiful attempt at a scam via e-mail today. I thought I would share with everyone, enjoy:

"Bless You My Dear,

I am Mrs. Karen Ronald, age 68 years old,i am the wife of late Mr. Robert Ronald, which i got your information from his diary,we are both  from United State Of America, my husband worked with the Oil and Gas Company Chevron/Texaco in Africa for twenty years before he died after he was release from the kidnappers,We were married for twenty-nine years without a child.

My Husband died after a brief illness that lasted only four days after he was release from the kidnappers. Before his death we were both born again Christians, When my late husband was alive he deposited the sum of US $5.5million dollars.with Guaranty Trust Bank Plc in the Africa, Presently this money is still with the Bank, the management  just send me a Next of Kin form as the beneficiary to fill it and get it scan to them for the release of this money or rather issue! That somebody to fill it and receive it on my behalf.

I'm in a hospital in Netherlands where I have been undergoing treatment for cancer of the breast and Pneumonia. I have since lost my ability to talk and my doctors have told me that I have only a few weeks to live. It is my last wish to see this money distributed to charity organizations and people that are in need of help anywhere in the World,That why I have contacted you to help me receive this funds as my late husband next of kin,Pleas i need your information to forward to the Bank, to let them know you are receiving my late husband funds on my behalf,Your Name, Your Address, and phone number.

Bless you as i hope to read from you soon.

Yours in Christ,
Mrs. Karen Ronald"

I get about 2 of those per week. Most of mine say they are in Africa.

I seem to get at least one of those a month via email. None so blatenly stupid though. I mean, If you get them normally you sought of recognize them but, this one is so blatenly "over the top". I don't know how anyone would fall for it. Like I said I get them quite often, so I've seen some doosey's but, this one has got to be the easiest one to catch I have ever seen. :bs:

That is funny, My moms sister and business associate recieved somthing like this but it was about my mom.  They had her name and said that she was in the United Kingdom and was robbed and had no money to come home please send me money to come home.  The funny thing is My mom is disabeled and has never been on vacation other than around the house and these people new that so that called her and told here about the email they got.  Shortly after that message she could not access her email account.  Here family and friends new this was a scam but I could not believe someone would even try this without knowing my moms abbits so they could be more believable.  We really have to watch out for stuff like this because someone has believed it and tried or these people would not keep doing it. Be careful all and watch out what you put personal things on your social networks and stuff like that someone will try and still your identy.

I don't know what counts as alot of these, but I have apparently won several lotteries in Nigeria. A couple in Canada. And, of course, I could get rich if I immediately follow someone or other's scheme.  I assume they must work on somebody, because no one would send these out if they didn't.

This is nothing new.  These types of scams have been around since before email.  We used to get them by snail mail, and also by fax when I was working in an office.  They will never stop because they are in countries (especially Nigeria) where it is very hard to track them down, and also, as they say, there is a sucker born every minute.

I actually have an older friend that fell for a similar scam. She was on some dating site, and started having an e-mail conversation with this "gentleman". After a few weeks of this e-mail dates, he confided with her that his mother had just been rushed into the hospital, and he was now being harassed to pay the insurance deductible so they could continue with treatment. He said he could pay part of it, but needed just $200 more to cover it. Being the good-hearted soul that she was, she sent the money, and that was the last she ever heard from the scammer.

I am getting emails from all over the world about the same thing. Now I getting emails from Western Union and Chase Bank stating that I have money sitting in their locations.   If you look  at the to: info in the email you will see undisclosed-recipients every time.  I hope people do not fall for this fraud.  I think people think we are so stupid really!

How stupid do they think we are? Or are we just dubious by nature? :bs:
