What's a good name for a new kitten?
« on: August 06, 2011, 04:37:39 am »
I found a kitten :cat: by the garbage can in my apartment complex and decided to keep him, but need a name for him. Any suggestions would be appreciated since I've had a history of not giving my past pets great names....lol. Thanks

Does it have some interesting or notable identifying features?  Does it have any behavioral "quirks"?  Those are good ways to pick a name.

For example, when I got my cat as a kitten, my sister noted out loud that the fur on his back was the color of butter, so I ended up choosing "Butters" as his name.  He's an adult now, and his fur has darkened to a golden brown, rather than a butter yellow, but the name still fits; he's the clumsiest cat I've ever seen!

Since you found him by a trash can, you could always name him "Oscar".   ;D

lol I have had a few of those clumsy ones my self. Oscar seems fitting as that is how he was found. But I also agree that for a name for the kitten give it about a week watch the kitten to see what "quirks" it has. Or special features as Ani has said. I know growing up we had over 50 cats at one time and a few of the names were Dicey because she was spotted black and white, Freckles who was a calico with freckles on her tongue, TC which stood for table cat and tv cat as those were her 2 favorite things and Twinklebell because no matter how hard she tried she never could hit the litter box lol.

Call him "Warrior" just like the movie " The Warriors"...there where orphans in that movie, and since he's an orphan kitty, it works just as well!

(clink~clink) "Warriors, come out and playaayyyyyy!"

Congrats on your new kitty, I just recently found a kitty in the back side of the neighbors apartment next door. It was actually cold that day, and he was whinning all by himself up under a paint tray! His name is Lucky~as in.....lucky we found him there, lucky he wasnt injured or hurt, lucky he didn't get in to the rodent poison my landlord had just put out....Lucky to have him a new part of the family!!!

If the kitten is black, name it shadow, noir, nero, or coco and if the kitten is orange name it tabby.  If the is shy name it cuddle.   I named my cat Paz and Nero they are boys.

My daughters and I love cats. We have had cats named Porcelain, Topaz, Oreo, Chevelle, Chassis, Twilight, Maple, Missy, Tigris, Lena, Buffy, Brennan, the list goes on lol. My family and I are huge cat lovers.  ;D I am so glad that you rescued the kitten from the dumpster. I wonder how the kitty got in there?  :dontknow:

I named a male cat "Lacey" (this can be a male or female name). He turned out to be loyal, affectionate, and brave....sort of like a dog in a cat's body!!

I think Oscar is a cute name for a cat. It is also the name of several famous musicians, including Oscar Brand, Oscar Peterson, Oscar Hammerstein, and Oscar D'Léon.

Do you know they actually have websites to name your pets?  Crazy.  But I really think it's hard to wrong with a pet's name.  Now giving a child a name, that is tough!

First of all - boy or girl?  What color is it? Long hair or short?  There are better names for girl kittens than boys.  Kitty is the first that comes to mind.  Kitty Kat is another.  Remember the old 1st grade readers - Fun with *bleep* and Jane - the kitty was named Puff.  Queenie is a good name.  Boy names - Blackie, Smokey, Tiger, Midnight.  If your cat is Calico, how about Spot?

Paul.

Or would that be a ridiculous name for a cat?

  Had to do that first as I love cats and I applaud you for adopting this cat.  I love how cats are independent and have their own adventures during the course of a day, whereas a dog just pants, slobbers, begs, and chews until you show it attention. :sad1:  Your cat will learn it's name, but it may not answer due to their independent nature.  Name it whatever you see fit, though I agree that "Oscar" is the best name.
