I try to cook at least twice a week, to cut down on food costs, and because it's healthier.  A year and 1/2 ago, I couldn't really cook aside from boxed meals, but my fiance taught me how (he was a chef for a few years).

Just so you know, if you are used to boxed meals, then switch to cooking real food....boxed meals won't taste like they used to.  I grew up on boxed meals like mac n cheese and liked it until we started cooking real meals, now it just doesn't taste right anymore.

I love to cook.  Thats one thing that my mom and grandmothers instilled in me, so I was helping in the kitchen at a young age.  Its been a useful skill to have.  My son is on a restricted diet, so most packaged products and frozen meals are out of the question.  I would have lost my mind if I didnt have decent cooking skills.   Im passing the same skills on to my son.  He's 7, so no knife work or stove work yet, but he helps measure ingredients, does the adding and stirring, and helps with cleanup.

A real good beginners cookbook is Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book or Joy of Cooking.  Mine are about 20 yrs old and Id had to modify the recipes because of the dietary restrictions, but I still use them. They both have good recipes that dont break the bank and cover the basic skills.

The web is also a good resource. It helps to have visuals sometimes.

Yes, I cook when I have the time. My mom was a stay at home mom and taught us how to cook. I never learned to bake though.

Cooking is not that difficult. A lot of the things I cook now I taught myself.  Start with easy stuff like meat loaf or somthing.  Than you will progress and get the hang of things.  Fast food isn't good all the time, unless you choose health foods from there like salads, or chicken breast.  I don't know what you mean by health foods or just heathier than fast food.  I know chicken and turkey are lower in fat that beef or pork, that is one reason I like watching the biggest looser they can teach you what foods are better for you.  If you need any help in making something or you want to try something put on here and I am sure there are several people that will give you advice.

I love cooking, and I love being self-taught. If anyone doesn't know how, I recommend teaching yourself because it is something to be proud of to see your progress. Just buy proteins on sale at the grocery store and look up recipes. If you aren't sure, ask the butcher/meat associate what type of cooking it is best for (beef/pork mainly). Some are best grilled, slow cooked, or in stews, etc. Give it a shot, it's fun as hell and you eventually make your own recipes.

I am a reluctant cook.  But I learned to cook in College because I certainly did not like the food in the cafeteria so I worked in the area where I had access to the college snack bar grill and would make my meals on their stove or in their ovens.  Necessity is the mother of some great inventions and learning to cooks was one of them.  :)

Yeah I cook.  I can make a good tuna casarole.  Two cans of tuna, I can of cream and mushroom soup, Half a bag of egg noodles. sour cream and achive chips crushed and a bag of shredded cheese.  I cook the noodles on top of stove mix the tuna and cream of mushroom soup together once the noodles are done I combine it a with the chips put cheese on top and bake until the cheese is melted the way I like it.  Oh I also add a can of peas.  My sister in law didn't think she woud like it but she loved it.

I love to cook and I love to try new things. I have been cooking for 42 years and I am still learning new things. I take a recipe and make it my own because I use different spices than what is called for.

I live by myself but I do cook one or twice a week. I make several meals at a time and freeze at least one or two. :peace:
